From the East

Dear Brethren:

A new masonic year has arrived and I wish to thank you for electing me as your Worshipful Master. I will endeavor to continue the tradition of striving for excellence and community set forth by my predecessors who have taken excellent care of the lodge before me. My theme for the lodge this year is “Tending to the Foundations”. Our lodge has been growing in ritual knowledge, Masonic education, and in numbers of brethren over the last couple of years and this year my three goals are to focus on some of the basic things that makes our lodge prosper; communication, community and charity.

First, some time ago our lodge began its first yahoo email group aimed at streamlining communication. I wish to build upon this program and set forth the means to further improve communication, not just from the officers to the lodge but amongst the brethren as well. This will include expanding our use of the email list as well as the establishment of a lodge member directory. Please check with the secretary to make sure your contact information is correct. You can register yourself for the lodge email list by sending a request to “Cherrydale42-subscribe@yahoogroups.com”. Please be sure to include your name so we can verify your request.

Second, community within the lodge is of vital importance to our growth and success. I’m planning to implement some programs this year to increase that community and fellowship amongst the brethren in hopes of strengthening our brotherly bonds and with our families as well. These programs will include non-formal dinners, family events such as our lodge BBQ & ice cream socials, and tours of the Masonic memorials in the area. On Feb. 16th we will have a tiled table lodge to celebrate the 90th Anniversary of Cherrydale Lodge. See Bro. Hone or myself to RSVP for the table lodge. The first ice cream social will be Mar. 29th at the lodge, bring your family.

Lastly, I wish to improve our participation with our charities. This year I hope to start a new tradition of selecting a single charity partner for the entire year and focusing on not just having them as a guest speaker, but actively participating with them each quarter. I feel that by doing this we will better support our charity partner and also build upon our own brotherly bonds. The charity partner I have selected for this year is the Arlington Food Assistance Center and we will have the Director of AFAC speak to us at our Jan 19th Stated Communication about what they do for the community.

In closing I wish to thank you all for your continued support of the lodge and its officers and I look forward to working with each of you to make this year a Masonic success.

Fraternally yours,

Justin Michael Strait,
Worshipful Master
