From the East

Dear Brethren:

We are NOT DARK during July and August. For the newer brethren we only have one communication on July 15 and one on August 19. Beginning September 2 we will go back to our customary two communications per month.

We had a very interesting June with presentations by Bro. Reed Brown, our own lodge organist as well as the Grand Lodge organist, on Holy Saints John Day and Benjamin Franklin (Don McAndrews) made his appearance and told us about his life and his life in masonry. Our July meeting agenda is still up in the air. In August our Past Master, John Clair, will make a presentation on the Loyal Orange institution. This discussion will ultimately lead into the effects of medieval Christendom on Freemasonry. DON’T MISS IT!!!

We also had our first, of many I hope, summer family picnics at my home on the 27th of June. We had a good turnout and hope that over the years we can use these types of events to foster more family events. In this respect we are having another ice cream social at the lodge in August. Exact time is to be determined. I want to specifically thank Bro. Justin Strait who organized the ice cream specials and the picnic. Finally, we have ladies night in September when we honor our ladies and the widows of our fallen brethren. More information will follow.

The month of July will include two degree nights: July 8 for a Fellow Craft degree and July 22 for our first Master Mason Degree this year. So far we have had 12 brothers receive either their EA or FC degrees. Our Junior Warden has been very busy as you can see. We always can use more brothers participating in the degree program. Either you can learn a new part or be a conductor or just be there to support our new brothers as they continue to seek light in masonry.

Over the months as we reach the second half of the year we will be calling on you all to participate in lodge meetings and fraternal visits. We have a strong desire to win the James Noah Hillman Memorial Award given to lodges that demonstrate strong Masonic activity both inside the lodge and outside the lodge.

Finally, we are participating in the Arlington County Fair in August. We will have a booth and hope to attract more men to our fraternity. We expect the DeMolay and Jobs Daughters to participate as well. We will definitely need brothers to man the booth. It begins Thursday August 19 and ends Sunday August 22, 2010. Please contact Justin Strait, Carl Weaver, John Frank or myself TO SIGN UP. Hours are Thur. 7:00PM to 10:00PM; Friday and Saturday 10:00AM to 9:00PM and Sunday from 11:00AM to 6:00PM.

Look forward to seeing you all at the next lodge meetings.

Fraternally yours,

James Franklin Norris
Worshipful Master
