Each year at our first Stated Communication in October, the brethren of Cherrydale
Lodge present the Masonic Home Ambassador the proceeds of our special Founder’s Day appeal for funds in
support of the Masonic Home of Virginia. Over the years Cherrydale Lodge has gained statewide
recognition and the sincere thanks of our elderly brethren, their wives and widows, who reside at the
home for our consistent and generous support.
The Masonic Home has a program known as the ‘Tree of Life’ to honor special brethren,
by placing their names on a brass plate, representing a leaf, within the main hallway at the home.
Cherrydale Lodge, with the generous support of our membership, has been able to add several leaves to
this tree over the years. The minimum donation for the placement of a leaf is $ 2500.00
Over the years Cherrydale Lodge has honored some of our most faithful brethren to
include: John Gott, John Dudley, Art Leavenworth, Ben Smith and Erskine Stewart. October the 1st will
mark our observation of Founder’s Day at Cherrydale Lodge, at which time our collection will be
presented to a Masonic Home representative.
At present, there are over 220 residents of the Masonic Home, some of whom are paying
their own way. However not all are as capable, and the cost of their every need is defrayed by the
income gained from the endowment fund. The financial support of this great fund and endeavor is the
responsibility of each and every brother who has taken that most solemn of obligations.
Please assist Cherrydale Lodge in maintaining our record of supporting our Brethren
in Freemasonry. I would sincerely ask that your gift be as generous as possible, as the foundations of
the Masonic Home depend on it. Please make checks payable to the Masonic Home of Virginia send to
Cherrydale Lodge # 42, c/o John W. Frank, Secretary, 3800 Fort Worth Ave, Alexandria, VA 22304.
