I hope you all had a wonderful
summer. Many of you know the summer has been anything but quiet around Cherrydale. In August, we had the
pleasure of receiving the Grand Master of Masons in Virginia, Most Wor. John R. Quinley. My brethren,
this meeting was well attended; I believe there where about 80-85 brothers in attendance. We had
fraternal visits from every lodge in the 54th district and also from Arlington Lodge #58 F&AM-PHA.
I can’t
express how proud I am of the brethren of Cherrydale Lodge for the outstanding effort that put forth to
make this evening a memorable one for all in attendance. Thank you, Brethren.
Also in August, I had the
pleasure of attending the 100th anniversary of Columbia Lodge #285 and the dedication for their new
building. The lodge room was full and the program was excellent. My hat is off to Wor Bro. Bill Clarke
and the members of Columbia.
Brethren, as you know, the One-Day class was also in August. We raised a total of 36 new brothers of
which 13 were form Cherrydale. I would like to congratulate all of these new brothers and I hope that
they become true students of the Craft. We also raised Brothers Edward Wilkinson, Jr. and Donald
McCallister in August. Congratulations to these brothers also. I’m really expecting great things from
you all.
We have also had three affiliations this year; they are Brothers Franz N. Stuppard, Walter Stringfellow,
and Carl L. Garris. My brethren, this brings our total new membership for the year to 21 brothers.
In September, we were fortunate to have Ms. Heather Calloway, the Director of Interns for the Supreme
Council as our guest speaker. Ms. Calloway gave an excellent presentation.
On our first stated meeting in October, we will have our annual Founders' Day dinner. The program for the
evening will be "The Masonic Home". My brethren, we are still accepting donations for this most worthy
cause. The Masonic Home is the crown jewel of Virginia Freemasonry.
On our second stated, we will have a joint meeting with Andrew Jackson Lodge #120. The meeting will be
held in the North Room of the George Washington Masonic National Memorial. Dinner will be at 6:00pm with
a stated meeting at 7:30 PM. Brethren, I guarantee this meeting will be an outstanding event and I
encourage all of you to attend. The topic will be “Masonic Education”. This is an open meeting; wives,
widows, and friends are welcome.
Finally my brethren, I ask that you all pray for the people that were effected by Hurricane Katrina.
Most of the people lost everything. Prayer is one of the most powerful tools known to man. In your
devotions to deity please remember these people.
See you in Lodge!
