At the first Stated Communication on January 5, 1978 a petition from Mr. Michael Gary Cohen, recommended by Brothers Larry J. Linville and Robert M. Cohen of Cornerstone Lodge #224, Maryland, was read and ordered to lie over for the statutory period. An application for membership was also read from Brother James Berry Curtis, now a member of Columbia Lodge #285 and recommended by WBs John R. Conner and Erskine Stewart was also read and ordered to lay over for the statutory period. Communications were read as follows: Notes from our widows for the Xmas gifts Mrs. Virginia McCarthy, Mrs. Wilhelmina Talley, Mrs. Edna Garrett, Mrs. Elva Rhoades, Mrs. Esther Whitener, Mrs. Ada Pruss and Mrs. Martha Wilson. Letter from Moncure Lodge #279 announcing that Worshipful Guy Myers had demitted. A letter of thanks from the family of the late Brother Roy Tederick for whom we had performed a courtesy funeral service. An invitation from Geo. Washington Chapter Order of the Demolay to attend their installation. The Secretary then read a resolution to change the by-law #1. It was ordered to lie over for the statutory period and be brought up on February 2. The Worshipful Master thanked Brothers Dennis Ladd and Hugh Falconer for their efforts in behalf of the Lodge's widows. He also presented Brother Ladd with a 100 Club Certificate. WBs John R. Conner and Erskine Stewart celebrated their Masonic birthdays and were given Masonic key chains. Each responded and were given a fine hand. RWBs Davey and Palmer then presented Right Worshipful Reid J. Simmons, the Grand Lecturer, at the Altar where he was welcomed by the Master, escorted to the East and given the honors due his high station. He proceeded to address the Brethren with choice remarks concerning rededication. He cited some predictions which had failed to come true such as Hitler's brag, General Custers’ estimate of the number of Indians on the other side of the hill and the sinking of the Titanic all of which had proved to be false. He closed by reciting the beautiful poem "In Flanders' Field" which was well received and seemed to serve the purpose of rededicating all of us to the cause of Masonry. At the conclusion he was given a fine hand and presented with a certificate of appreciation and a Masonic key chain. The Worshipful Master appointed a committee composed of WBs Carl D, Ford, William Hefflebower and Bruce McNamee to study the resolutions which are coming up at Grand Lodge and report to the Lodge on February 2. At the second Stated Communication on January 19, the weather was miserable (Middle of a Blizzard). There were no new or maturing petitions but there was one letter read from Brother Billy J. Buchanan asking to be reinstated accompanied by a check for the dues that were in arrears when he was suspended. This application was ordered to lie over for the statutory period. Communications were read as follows: A request from Brother Ralph E. Embrey for a demit and he being clear on the books the demit was ordered issued. An edict from the Grand Master concerning Masonic trials was read. A letter from Worshipful Donald M. Robey, Chairman of the 6th Division announcing a 200th Anniversary Celebration to be held on May 27th and requesting our Lodge to prepare a history and any other material of interest to be displayed at this meeting. An invitation to attend the installation of officers of Fairfax Assembly, International Order of the Rainbow for Girls on February 4, 1978 at Mt. Carmel Lodge at 2:00 PM in Warrenton, Va. This is the first Assembly in Northern Virginia. Notes of thanks from our widows, Mrs. Elsie Briggs, Mrs. Mary Mackey and Mrs. Guy Foltz. The only one reported sick was Brothers Ben Smith but there was a notice of the death of one our members, on January 9, 1978 -- Brother Cornelius J. J. Vos and the Worshipful Master called up the Lodge for a moment of silent reflection and ordered $25.00 given to the Scholarship Fund in lieu of the usual funeral notice and flowers. Announcements were then made of coming events in the area and especially the up-coming Grand Lodge session. WBs Carl Ford and Charles Strain presented the speaker of the evening Worshipful Carlyle L. Tiller, Administrator of the Masonic home at the Altar where he was welcomed by the Worshipful Master, escorted to the East and given the honors due his station. He then made a few remarks as a preliminary to the slide presentation of the Masonic Home which he titled Past, Present and Future. This was well received by the Brethren and at the conclusion he was given a fine hand and the Worshipful Master presented him with copy of the Lodge history, copies of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution and a Masonic key-chain. At the Stated Communication of February 2, the petition of Mr. Michael Gary Cohen having lain over for the statutory period and having a favorable report of the committee the ballot was spread and being found clear he was elected to receive the first degree in Masonry. The application for membership of Brother James Berry Curtis having lain over the statutory period the ballot was spread and being found clear he was elected to membership in Cherrydale Lodge. Communications were read from Mrs. Sara Wright, Mrs. C. J. J. Vos, a letter from the Grand Lodge of Connecticut stating that St. John's Lodge #4 of West Hartford, Ct, had performed Masonic services for our late Brother Vos. A card from Brother Kenneth W. Cann in Florida. A letter from RWB Carl C. Comley, Sr. advising us that he had affiliated with Prince Frederick Lodge #142 on 1/25/78. Brother’s Larry J. Linville and William D. Weisenburger were welcomed on their Masonic birthdays escorted to the East and given a memento of the occasion. Each of them responded. Worshipful Elmer Wiseman was then asked to come to the East where he was welcomed on his 65th birthday and the Brethren all rose and sang Happy Birthday to him. After he had recovered from the 'shock' he responded with a few well-chosen remarks. Announcements were then made of coming events and all urged to attend especially the installation of Rt. Worshipful Joseph Miller at Columbia Lodge #285 on February 20. The Worshipful Master thanked Worshipful Luther Farley for his work in seeing to the installation of the new furnace and for the many other things he had been doing for the Lodge. Brother J. Barron Nash approached the East and was presented with still another 100 Club certificate -- he possesses many of them, and was given a fine hand. Worshipful Charles Strain, Brothers Weisenburger and Fritzwolter were nominated to fill the vacancies on the Temple Corporation to replace Brothers Braner, Falconer and Worshipful Hassan Kiser. RWB Reid Simmons then approached the East and was given the honors due his station. He proceeded to present a 50-year pin to Brother James W. Thatcher, Sr., who was raised exactly 50 years ago this evening. The ceremony was beautifully performed and at the conclusion Brother Thatcher made a few choice remarks. The last piece of business which was acted upon was the resolution to change the meeting time of the Stated Communications back to 7:30 P.M. After some brief discussion the Brethren present voted to return to the hour of 7:30 P.M. if the Grand Master approves. At a Called Communication of February 9, a Master mason's Lodge was opened and the Worshipful master extended a general greeting to all. He announced that the communication had been called for work in the first and second degrees. The Master Mason's Lodge was for the present dispensed with and a Lodge on the first degree of Masonry was opened for work and instruction. Worshipful Forrest Nagley examined Brother Larry Arthur Stump on his Entered Apprentice' catechism. The Lodge on the First Degree in Masonry was then closed and the Master Mason's Lodge resumed labor. The ballot was separately circulated and spread to test the Masonic proficiency and moral fitness of Brother Stump previous to his being passed to the degree of Fellowcraft. Each resulting in his favor he was declared elected to receive the same. The Master Mason's Lodge was again dispensed with and a Lodge on the Second Degree of Masonry was opened. Brother Larry Arthur Stump was introduced and passed to the Degree of Fellowcraft with Worshipful Luther B. Farley Sr., presiding. The Sr. Deacon's Lecture was delivered by Brother Jerry Collins and the Middle Chamber Lecture by Worshipful Erskine Stewart. Worshipful Forrest Nagley recited the Charge from memory. The Lodge on the Second Degree of Masonry was then closed and the Master Mason's Lodge resumed labor. Brother Collins and the Worshipful Master thanked the Brethren who had come out and assisted in the work this evening. At a Stated Communication of February 16, a Master Mason's Lodge was opened and the Worshipful Master extended a general greeting to all and thanked them for coming. The request for restoration to rights and benefits of Masonry and membership in Cherrydale Lodge #42 by Brother Billy J. Buchanan having lain over for the statutory period the ballot was spread and being found clear he was elected and restored to membership. Communications were read as follows: a notice that RWB Ralph E. Swope had passed away on January 22, 1978 and the Lodge was called up for a moment of silent reflection. An epistle from Brother Ivan Morrison in Belgium. A request for a demit from Brother Gerald G. Jones was read and he being clear on the books the Worshipful Master ordered the demit issued. Also notes from the following widows: Evelyn Brust, Nadine Gillette, Hazel Edwards, Elizabeth Hamby, Mrs. Robert Hammond, Agnes Kelley, Clara M. Kraus, Penelope Long, Mrs. Carlyle Seiler, Mrs. Dorothy Smith, and Sarah Ann Turner thanking us for the Christmas remembrance and card. Also a concurrent jurisdiction notice from Macon Ware Lodge #192. Announcements were then made of coming events, especially the D.I.W. School on Feb. 22nd at Concord and the installation of our new District Deputy Grand Master, RWB Joseph Albert Miller, on Monday, February 20 at Columbia Lodge #285. The Worshipful Master then announced that our by-laws had been approved and that we would return to the 7:30 P.M. meeting time in March. Reports concerning the recent session of the 200th anniversary of our Grand Lodge held in Williamsburg, Va. where the Grand Lodge was formed in 1778. There were over 1600 in attendance. The following gave brief reports of their impressions: Worshipful Erskine Stewart, all of the line officers, the Secretary and Treasurer, The Chaplain and the Stewards as well as the Marshal. Also WBs Conner and Hefflebower. All gave glowing reports concerning the sessions, the entertainment, the laying of the wreath at Most Worshipful John Blair, JR’s grave – he being our first Grand Master. Several gave glowing reports concerning the Gala Celebration on Tuesday evening when the Richmond Symphony Orchestra and Miss Ethe1 Merman entertained. No further business remaining to claim the attention of the Brethren the Master Mason's Lodge was closed. At the Stated Communication of March 2, communications were read as follows: a Proclamation from the Grand Master concerning the holding of a meeting to honor our youth organizations some time during 1978; a report from the Grand Secretary on the recent Grand Lodge session. A note of thanks from Sharon Chapter #63 for the use of the hall on Feb. 6. An invitation to installation of officers of Commander William L. Herndon Chapter on March 12, 2:00 P.M. at the Geo. Wash. Masonic Memorial. A letter from Coral Gables Lodge #260 advising us that Brother Christ Counelis had affiliated with them as a dual member. Announcements were then made of coming events, especially the visit of the Grand Master on the 16th and the Leadership Conference on the 18th. Worshipful John Conner escorted Brother Stephen P. Hollingsworth to the foot of the East where he was given a 100 Club membership certificate on behalf of the Cherrydale Players. Brother’s Nash, Weaver and Fritzwolter came to the foot of the East and were given mementos of their Masonic birthdays. Each of them responded gracefully. Brother Nash was then presented with a 25-year pin, which was due in 1972. The Cherrydale Players then presented the Carl Claudy play – ‘A Rose Upon The Altar’ and it was well received by the Brethren who gave them a standing round of applause. The cast was as follows:
The Worshipful Master served as the Master of Ceremonies and after the Lodge closed, the old bowler hat was placed on the Altar for contributions to our Scholarship Fund and $84.00 was realized. WBs Farley and Conner reported on the progress of the Temple Corporation in paneling the Lodge room -- which is beautiful -- and the schedule of the Cherrydale Players for the remainder of the year. RWB John Parker then gave a few brief remarks concerning the necessity of all of us being charitable and they were well received. At the Called Communication on March 4, a Master Mason's Lodge was opened and the Worshipful Master announced that this meeting had been called for the purpose of conferring the Entered Apprentice' Degree on one candidate. He thanked the Brethren for coming our on this cold and 'unusual' Saturday meeting. The Master Mason's Lodge was for the present dispensed with and a Lodge on the first degree in Masonry was opened for work and instruction. Mr. Michael Gary Cohen was introduced and initiated into the mysteries of Masonry with Brother Charles Braner in the East. Worshipful Forrest Nagley delivered the Entered Apprentice lecture and Brother Tom Mutschler of Glebe, #181 and Benjamin B. French Lodge, recited the charge from memory. The Lodge on the first degree in Masonry was then closed and the Master Mason's Lodge resumed labor. The Jr. Warden thanked all those who had participated in the work this evening. At a Stated Communication on March 16, the Worshipful Master extended thanks to the large number present (53 guests) on such a 'nasty' night. The Color Guard of the Legion of Honor of Kena Temple presented the Flag of our Country and all joined in the Pledge of Allegiance after which the Flag was placed in its proper place in the Lodge. The lodge was advised that the Grand Master of Masons in Virginia, Most Worshipful Robert Rhandle Kennedy, Jr., was in waiting. A committee consisting of RWBs Joseph Alfred Miller, Karl D. Beckemeyer, and Most Worshipful H. Bruce Green was appointed to wait on the Grand Master. He was escorted to the Altar where he was welcomed by the Worshipful Master, and in the East given the honors due his high station. He asked the Worshipful Master to continue to preside and that he would have a few remarks later. An application for affiliation was read from Brother Chewter Theodore Rowland a member of Chevy Chase Lodge #42, in the District of Columbia and it was ordered to lie over for the statutory period. Communications were read from Rt. Worshipful Carl Comley who is making an extended trip in Florida; a letter from Arlington Chapter #39 O.E.S. advising us that they are very pleased with the improvements in the Lodge room; Invitations to attend installation of officers of Dogwood Shrine #3 and also an open meeting of John Blair Lodge #187 on April 19 when the Grand Master will speak. Also a letter from the Grand Master advising us that we would receive a shipment of the commemorative plates to be sold to the Brethren. A letter was also read concerning recommendation for D.D.G.M. for 1979 was read and ordered postponed to April. WBs Charles Strain, Carl Ford, and William E. Hoy, Trustees of the lodge advanced to the Altar along with Most Worshipful Stewart Miner. Brother Strain gave a brief eulogy of Most Worshipful Brother Hugh Reid, Past Grand Master of Masons in Virginia who passed away February 9. 1973. His daughter, Kathryn Golden presented to the Lodge his Grand Master's apron, past master jewel, past high priest jewel, his gloves and past grand Master's jewel. They had been beautifully framed and were then unveiled. The Worshipful Master then advised the Grand Master that this concluded the business of the evening and invited him to take over. He proceeded to address the Brethren in his own inimitable style. He complimented the Lodge on the beautiful display of memorabilia of Most Worshipful Hugh Reid. He then talked to the Brethren concerning LEADERSHIP, stating that the 200+ years of this Country is the greatest length of time any country had lived in Freedom. He spoke of his optimism for the future. He talked about his theme for the year -- "Reactivate and Rededicate in 78" -- and how the Brethren were responding. The next thing he dwelled on was a visit to a Bethel of Jobs' Daughters in Richmond shortly after his installation; how there was a great outpouring of Leaders at this meeting and how composed and confident the Honored Queen was as she presided. He then pointed out some of our failures in the Leadership of our Lodges, particularly the handling of our American Flag and the discourtesy displayed when the National Anthem is played. He closed with a beautiful piece of prose concerning 'Grandpa's Barn'. At the conclusion he was given a standing ovation and the Worshipful Master presented him with a Certificate of Appreciation, a Masonic key-chain and Brother Blasco presented him with a tidy sum of money to be presented to the Masonic Home as a Memorial to Mrs. Vonna Offield who had passed away recently. A Lodge of Sorrow was convened on March 22, at the Money and King Funeral Home, Vienna, Va. at 8:00 P.M. to pay the last tribute of respect to our late Brother John Henry Joyner who died March 19, 1978 at the age of 67. WB John C. Parker delivered the memorial service, which was well attended by members of the local Lodges, including Warren G. Harding #39, Washington, D.C. At the conclusion of the Service the Worshipful Master declared the Lodge of Sorrow dispensed with. At a Stated Communication on April 6, the Worshipful Master extended a general greeting to all and asked their cooperation in keeping the meeting short due to the many items to be covered. The Pledge of Allegiance was given to the Flag of our Country. The Lodge was advised that the District Deputy Grand Master, Right Worshipful Joseph Albert Miller was in waiting. A committee composed of RWB Carl C. Comley, Sr. and WB Charles L. Strain were appointed to wait on him. He was greeted by the Master and continued to the East where he was given the honors due his station. He thanked the Lodge for the welcome and asked the Worshipful Master to continue to preside and he would have a few remarks later. Communications were read as follows: A Proclamation from the Grand Master announcing Holy Saints John's Day to be June 25, 1978. Members are to attend Church in a body and the Secretary to send a report of the number in attendance, etc. a letter from Worshipful Max Greenberg, Hollywood Lodge #209 in Florida; a card from RWB Carl C. Comley from Florida. A card of thanks from Mrs. Nell Joyner, widow of our late Bro. John H. Joyner. Notice of Steak dinner at Arlington Masonic Temple on April 23. Also a garage sale on May 20 at the same place, Notice of the assessment of the property which the County now values at $83,500.00. The Lodge was called up for a moment of silent reflection for our late Bro. John H. Joyner, who passed away March 19, 1978 at the age of 67. The Worshipful Master announced that Brother James C. Hughes had resigned his position of Jr. Deacon and is moving to Newport News, Va. His position will be filled by a special election on May 4. Worshipful Brothers Bruce W. McNamee, Carl D. Ford and William D. Hefflebower were nominated for a recommendation to the Grand Master for the office of District Deputy Grand Master in 1979• Brother McNamee having received a majority of the ballots cast was the successful candidate with Worshipful Carl Ford to be recommended as the alternate. The Worshipful Master announced the death of Mrs. Eola Parker, wife of our RWB John C. Parker. He also announced that the Lodge was the recipient of a gift of $500.00 from the widow of our late Brother William C. Austin. The Lodge will decide later how to use this legacy. Worshipful Luther Farley asked permission to dispose of the piano in the Social hall to give us the needed room for book cases and this was granted, there being no objection. RWB Carl C. Comley and WB Charles L. Strain served as a committee to present RWB Charles A. Sinclair, Jr., Grand Lecturer emeritus, where he was welcomed by the Worshipful Master, continued to the East and was given the honors due his high station. 'Charmie" then proceeded to address the Brethren on the origin of our Craft with the builders of "Sacred Edifices" as it was exclusively theirs. Ancient Speculative Masonry was presided over by these builders. The word, Freemason, appeared in the year 1713. Many of their teachings were adopted in the teachings of Speculative Masonry. In the year 1723 a "New Constitution" was formed. Originally there was only one degree and Lodges were composed of "Fellows". He then explained the duties of the officers and how a Brother could procure his "wages" if any be due. At the close he appealed to the Brethren to dispense the True Light of Masonry in their daily travels. He was given a standing ovation and the Worshipful Master presented him with a certificate of appreciation. The District Deputy Grand Master was then requested to assume the East as this completed our business. RWB Miller then brought the message of the Grand Master to the Brethren on this the last of his official visits in the 54th Masonic District. He repeated the Grand Master's slogan for the year "Reactivate and Rededicate in 78", mentioning briefly each of the Grand Master's 7 points which correspond to the 7 days in the week. He then elaborated on the 4th goal, "Our Duties to our Families", which should be first in our every day living. We should plan our Lodge attendance and keep our families advised as to when we would be attending meetings. We should also encourage them to read Masonic pamphlets, books and especially the Trestleboard. We should strive to get home at a reasonable hour, and include them in as many Lodge functions as possible. "Open Meetings" are highly recommended. At the conclusion of his talk Brother Miller was given a standing round of applause. He then continued to preside through the close of the meeting. At a Called Communication on April 11, the Worshipful Master announced that this meeting had been called for work in the Entered Apprentice and Fellowcraft Degrees. The Pledge of Allegiance was given to the Flag of our Country. The Master Mason's Lodge was for the present dispensed with and a Lodge on the First Degree in Masonry was opened for work and instruction. Bros. Carleton C. McEachern and Michael Gary Cohen were examined on their Entered Apprentice Catechism by Brother James Curtis. The Lodge on the First Degree in Masonry was then closed and the Master Mason's Lodge resumed labor. The Ballot was separately circulated and spread to test the Masonic Proficiency and moral fitness of Brothers McEachern and Cohen previous to their being passed to the degree of Fellowcraft. Each resulting in their favor they were declared elected to receive the same. The Master Mason's Lodge was again dispensed with and a Lodge on the Second Degree in Masonry was opened for work and instruction. Brothers Carleton Clark McEachern and Michael Gary Cohen were introduced and passed to the Degree of Fellowcraft with Brothers Jerry S. Collins and James Curtis presiding. The Sr. Deacon's Lecture was delivered by Brother Collins and the Middle Chamber Lecture by WB Forrest R. Nagley. WB Jack Rogers, the District Instructor of work recited the charge from memory. WB Forrest Nagley advanced to the Altar and examined Brother Larry Arthur Stump on his Fellowcraft's catechism. The Lodge on the 2nd degree of Masonry was then closed and the Master Mason's Lodge resumed labor. The ballot was separately circulated and spread to test the Masonic proficiency and moral fitness of Brother Stump previous to his being raised to the sublime degree of Master Mason. Each resulting in his favor he was declared elected to receive the same. The Jr. Warden thanked all who had participated in the work this evening. At a Stated Communication on April 20, a Master Mason's Lodge was opened and the Pledge of Allegiance was given to the Flag of our Country. A new petition from Mr. Ronald Dean Ashby was read and ordered to lie over for the statutory period. The application for membership of Brother Chester Theodore Rowland, a member of Chevy Chase Lodge #42 in the District of Columbia was taken up and the ballot being spread and found clear he was declared elected to dual membership in Cherrydale Lodge. Brother Rowland was applauded on his success. Communications: A Proclamation from the Grand Master proclaiming the month of October to be Founder's Day Month was read, this being the only correspondence. The Worshipful Master announced that he had received an invitation from his Church, Clarendon Presbyterian, to attend services in a body on Sunday, June 25 when we will celebrate St. John's Day. The Master Mason's Lodge was for the present dispensed with and a Lodge on the 2nd Degree of Masonry was opened for work and instruction. Brother Jim Curtis advanced to the Altar and examined Brother Michael Gary Cohen on his Fellowcraft's catechism. The Lodge on the 2nd Degree in Masonry was then closed and the Master Mason's Lodge resumed labor. The ballot was separately circulated and spread to test the Masonic proficiency and moral fitness of Brother Cohen previous to his being raised to the sublime Degree of Master Mason. Each resulting in his favor he was declared elected to receive the same. Brothers Larry Arthur Stump and Michael Gary Cohen were separately introduced and raised to the sublime degree of Master Mason with Worshipful Jack Rogers and Brother Jim Curtis in the East for the first section and WB William Phillips of Macon Ware Lodge #192 and Bruce McNamee of Cherrydale in the East for the 2nd section. Worshipful John R. Conner delivered the lecture in fine fashion and Worshipful Caulder Morris, President of the Knights of Mecca of Kena Temple recited the charge from memory. Each of these Brethren was urged to memorize the Master Mason's catechism and the Resolution of February 14, 1924 was read to them. They were each given an application for the Masonic Benefit Fund, a Presentation Volume, a copy of the Lodge history, a copy of the bylaws and Worshipful Forrest Nagley presented each of them a souvenir trowel on behalf of the Lodge. Brother Wilson of St. Mark's Church presented Brother Stump with the working tools and Brother Hudson LaSalle of Potomac Lodge #5 gave him a lapel pin on behalf of the men at St. Mark's. Brother Cohen's father gave his son a ring which had been given to him by his father and he had worn it proudly for 25 years. Brother Jim Curtis gave each of the newly raised Brethren several mementos and in turn Brother Cohen gave Jim a beautiful wallet on behalf of himself and son for the help which Jim had given Mickie. Each of these Brethren responded with appropriate remarks. The Worshipful Master then explained some of the Masonic protocol to Brothers Stump and Cohen and also thanked the members of the Knights of Mecca and others who had participated in the degrees this evening. A Stated Communication on May 4, the Master Mason's Lodge was opened and the Worshipful Master extended a general greeting to all, and thanked them for their continued support. The Fledge of Allegiance was given to the Flag of our Country. A new petition was read from Mr. Edward Clarence James, Jr., it was ordered received. There were no maturing petitions. Communications were read from the Grand Master concerning the constitution of Thomas J. Traylor Lodge #348 and a letter of thanks from Hiram Lodge #10 for the presentation of the play, Rose Upon The Altar, recently. Brother James Hughes having resigned the position of Junior Deacon, Brothers William Weisenburger, Ryan Souther and Odie B. Crumpler, Jr. were nominated and Brother Weisenburger receiving a majority of the ballots he was declared elected. Brother Charles Braner, Sr. Warden, installed the newly elected Jr. Deacon. WBs Strain and Moore (#285) presented WB Charles Necessary at the Altar where he was greeted by the Worshipful Master, escorted to the East and given the honors due his station. He proceeded to address the Brethren on Masonic Education taking his text from portions of the Holy Scriptures, starting off with King Solomon's Temple, the erection of which was denied to King David, Solomon's father. He quoted a vivid description of the Temple its accoutrements, the materials used, the payment of the laborers and a beautiful description of Hiram Abif. He then asked the question "Who is our Supreme Grand Master?" and followed with a statement that all control rests in his hands. At the conclusion he was given a standing round of applause and the Worshipful Master presented him with a certificate of appreciation. No further business remaining to claim the attention of the Brethren the Master Mason's Lodge was closed. At a Called Communication on May 9, a Master Mason's Lodge was opened and the Worshipful Master thanked the Brethren for being there to assist in the work in the Fellowcraft and Master Mason's Degrees. The Master Mason's Lodge was for the present dispensed with and a Lodge on the Second Degree in Masonry was opened for work and instruction. Brother Mickie Cohen advanced to the Altar and examined Brother Carleton Clark McEachern on his Fellowcraft's catechism. The Lodge on the 2nd Degree in Masonry was then closed and the Master Mason's Lodge resumed labor. The ballot was separately circulated and spread to test the Masonic proficiency and moral fitness of Brother McEachern previous to his being raised to the sublime degree of Master Mason. Each resulting in his favor he was declared elected to receive the same. Brother McEachern was then separately introduced and raised to the sublime Degree of Master Mason with Brother James Curtis in the East for the first section; Brother Jerry S. Collins for the second section and Worshipful John R. Conner delivered the Master Mason's Lecture and Worshipful Jack Rogers, our D.I.W, read the Charge. Brother McEachern was then instructed in Lodge protocol and taught the use of the ballot box by the D.I.W. Brother Cohen presented him with a lapel pin and tie-tack on behalf of his father and himself as well as a Masonic ring on behalf of Brother McEachern's family. Brother Jim Curtis presented him with a 'badge'. The Secretary presented him with an application for the Masonic Benefit Fund. Brother McEachern's response to all this was "PHEW", and he seemed to be very pleased with the work. Brother Collins thanked all of the Brethren who had taken part and the Secretary complimented Worshipful Jack Conner on the fine lecture. A Stated Communication was held on May 18, with the Senior Warden, Brother Charles presiding, as this was Senior Warden's Night. He extended a general greeting to all and thanked them for coming. The maturing petition of Mr. Ronald Dean Ashby was taken up and the ballot being spread and found clear he was declared elected to receive the first degree in Masonry. There were no new petitions. Communications were read from the Grand Secretary regarding the coverage of the blanket policy. An invitation from to attend the constitution of Fairfax Assembly Rainbow Girls, May 27 at Henry Lodge #57 at 7:30 P.M. Announcements were made about the 200th Anniversary Celebration on May 27 and tickets were available from Masons, friends and families. Worshipful Forrest Nagley gave a detailed report on the bloodmobile of May 13. Worshipful Luther Farley nominated Brother Ryan E. Souther for membership on the Temple Corp. and as he was unopposed he was declared elected. WBs Jack and Bob Bussler presented Worshipful Herman J. Lichty, Past Master of Naval Lodge #4 and Junior Past Grand High Priest of the Grand Chapter of the Grand Royal Arch Chapter of the District of Columbia at the Altar where he was welcomed by the Master, escorted to the East and given the honors due his station. He proceeded to address the lodge on the subject of "My Father's Lodge". His Father was a member of Prince of Orange Lodge #16, New York, N.Y. The Masonic Lodges of yesteryear had a tremendous influence in shaping men's character. That influence is greatly needed today, The Speaker's father told him many years ago that if he ever had the opportunity to do so, to please join the Masons. His Father's Masonic membership was a great point of pride to him. He stated that the spirit of Masonry had much to do with shaping the nation. Cecil B. DeMi11e and Charles Coburn, movie and stage stars were members of his father's Lodge. He stated that being a Mason is a badge of honor that belongs to a diminishing number today. America needs lofty idealism and moral teachings. Problems of modern civilization present a need for the moral teachings of Masonry. We must lend whole-hearted support to the Symbolic Lodge. We must keep our Lodges strong and make them an inspiration to our members. At the conclusion he was given a standing round of applause and the Master presented him with a Certificate of Appreciation and the Master Masons Lodge was closed. A Called Communication was held on May 23. The Master Mason's Lodge was opened and the Worshipful Master announced that this meeting had been called for work and instruction in the Entered Apprentice Degree. The Master Mason's Lodge was for the present dispensed with and a Lodge on the 1st Degree of Masonry was opened for work and instruction. Mr. Ronald Dean Ashby was introduced and initiated into the mysteries of Masonry with Brother James Curtis in the East for the first section. Worshipful John R. Conner delivered the lecture and our new slides were used for the first time. Worshipful Jack Rogers, D.I.W., read the charge. The Lodge on the First Degree in Masonry was then closed and the Master Mason's Lodge resumed labor. The Junior Warden thanked all for their participation in the degree work especially Brothers Curtis, Conner and Rogers and the Master Mason's Lodge was closed. A Stated Communication was held on June 1, with Brother Charles H. Braner, Sr. Warden, Presiding in the absence of the Worshipful Master who was called out of town to attend the funeral of his mother-in-law. The Master Mason's Lodge was opened and the Worshipful Master extended a general greeting to all and thanked them for coming out to hear our distinguished speaker, Senator Harry Flood Byrd, Jr. The Pledge of Allegiance was given to the Flag of our Country. There were no new petitions or applications for membership. The maturing petition of Mr. Edward Clarence James, Jr. was taken up and the ballot being spread and found clear he was declared elected to receive the First Degree in Masonry. Birthdays of Brother Lawrence Dahl and William A. Vincent were celebrated and Brother Vincent was presented with a 25-year pin. This was also his 37th wedding anniversary. The Worshipful Master welcomed visitors, his own members, all of the Past Masters and Past D.D.G.M.'s. He then asked Right Worshipful Carl Comley and Worshipful Wm. Hoy to present the Grand Senior Warden, Right Worshipful Charles E. Wallace at the Altar. He was welcomed by the Master, escorted to the East and given the honors due his station. He responded with a short message, especially congratulating Worshipful Forrest Nagley on the results of the recent bloodmobile. He then welcomed our two Past Grand Masters, Most Worshipful H. Bruce Green and Stewart W. Miner at their seats by request. These same two Past Grand Masters then presented our speaker of the evening, Brother and Senator Harry Flood Byrd, Jr. at the Altar (Brother Miner making the presentation). He was welcomed by the Master, escorted to the East and given a warm Cherrydale welcome. He proceeded to address the Brethren on the subject of "PATRIOTISM". He showed how Masonry in Virginia and the formation of this Country closely paralleled each other and spoke of the many Masonic leaders who had a part in the founding of the Country as well as the Grand Lodge of Virginia. He stated that the struggle for independence was fought by Masons and others to attempt to put down tyranny. He cited the two great documents we proudly own -- The Declaration of Independence and the Constitution of the United States, supported by the Bill of Rights. He compared our situation today with that of the Revolution and the great civilizations of Rome and Greece and that we are paying the same price today for these liberties as we did 200 years ago. He quoted Brother George Mason's statement that all authority comes from the people and not from kings, parliaments, etc. Armed with the bill of rights and a new constitution our Country has progressed to the present time and that we should never cease our vigilance in protesting these Freedoms. He stated that he knew of no group or organization that better stood for the ideals of this Country than the Masonic Fraternity. At the conclusion he was given a standing ovation and the Worshipful Master presented him with a Certificate of Appreciation and the Master Mason's Lodge was closed. A Stated Communication was held on June 15, the Worshipful Master extended a general greeting to all and thanked them for coming. The Pledge of Allegiance was given to the Flag of our Country. An application for membership from Brother Robert M. Cohen, now a member of Cornerstone Lodge #224, A.F.& A.M. in Maryland, was read and ordered to lie over for the statutory period. There were no maturing petitions. Communications were read from Chris Stewart thanking the officers for the flowers sent to her late mother; a letter from Mt. Jackson Lodge #103 stating they had conducted funeral services for our late Brother George Henry Crickenberger who passed away June 4. Also a note of thanks from the Bethel. The Lodge was called up for a moment of silent reflection for our Late Brother George Henry Crickenberger, who passed away on June 4 at the age of 65. Several motions were made to remit the dues for 1977 and 1978 of Brothers David H. Thompson and William W. Byron due to their inability to pay at this time. Discussion was then had concerning the 1977 dues of 12 other Brethren and the Worshipful Master ordered the Secretary to issue the usual citations. Announcements were made concerning the Lodge picnic to be held at Lacey Woods. The expected visit of Brother Barry M. Goldwater on Ju1y 25 was also announced as well as several other events. Brother Michael Gary Cohen advanced to the Altar and was examined on his Master Mason's catechism by Brother Jim Curtis. At the conclusion he was given a fine hand and the Secretary moved that he be granted a certificate attesting to the fact. The Worshipful Master asked Brother Cohen to approach the East and presented him this certificate and at the conclusion of the meeting Worshipful Brother Farley moved that the Lodge procure from the Grand Lodge a like certificate which carried. The Worshipful Master requested Worshipful F. R. Nagley and C. W. Palmer to present our speaker of the evening, Brother Woodrow Wilson Hayzlett at the Altar where he was welcomed by the Master, escorted to the East and given a fine Cherrydale welcome. He proceeded to address the Lodge as our St. John's Day speaker in memory of St. John the Baptist. He pointed out the two political parties in existence at the time of St. John the Baptist -- the Pharisees and Seduces and that John was a member of the Essene Sect. The Festival of John the Baptist is the oldest Masonic Festival. John's message was the "burning fire to cleanse the world." He explained how we came to dedicate our Lodges to the two Holy Saints John during the middle ages when the Grand Lodge of England was formed. He traced the building of the 3 great temples built on the hill of Mt. Mariah in Jerusalem. He closed his remarks with reference to the 'four turnups and five lettuces (let us) in Masonry. At the conclusion he was given a standing round of applause and the Worshipful Master presented him with a certificate of appreciation and the Master Mason's Lodge was closed. A Called Communication was held on July 6. The Worshipful Master extended a general greeting to all and thanked them for coming out in a vacation month to help in the degree work and instruction in the Entered Apprentice Degree. The Pledge of Allegiance was given to the Flag of our Country. A petition from Mr. Edward George Shipley, read and the Worshipful Master ordered it received to lie over for the statutory period. An application for membership was received from Brother Harry Leo Slatin, now a member of Centennial Lodge #326 A.F.& A.M., Omaha, Nebraska. The application was ordered received to lie over for the statutory period. The maturing application for membership of Brother Robert M. Cohen and the ballot being spread and found clear he was declared elected to membership in Cherrydale Lodge. Communications were read as follows: a letter from Mrs. Hazel Souder advising of the death of our Brother Lawson B. Souder on June 24 in Florida. A letter of sympathy has already been sent to her. A letter from Most Worshipful C. F. Shuler concerning the impending meeting of the "Grand Lodge of Bath County". A letter from Brother Denman Rucker telling us the new Trustees had been recorded and a fee of $10.00 was needed. Executive Order #3 in reference to the wearing of the aprons on the inside with single-breasted suits and outside the coat if it is double-breasted. This order to remain in effect until the next Grand Lodge session. A letter from G1ebe Lodge #181, concurring in the Lodge's nominations for DDGM: and the alternate -- Worshipful McNamee and Ford. Most Worshipful Stewart W. Miner approached the East and presented to the Lodge a beautiful organ that had been purchased by some of the officers, past masters and sideline members. On motion the Lodge voted to accept this beautiful instrument and to extend thanks to all that had so generously given of their means to make this purchase. The Worshipful Master then asked our newest member, Brother Bobby Cohen to approach the East and presented him with a 25 year silver lapel pin and then called Brother Cohen's son, Mickie to the East to receive a certificate from the Grand Lodge on completion of his 3 catechisms. Each was given a fine hand. Worshipful Herb Koehne and Cecil Meder both of 181 presented our speaker of the evening at the Altar where he was welcomed by the Master, escorted to the East and given a nice hand. He spoke to the Brethren about the beautiful scripture that is recited on the first section of the Master Mason's degree this being Ecclesiastes X11 the first seven verses. He broke it down into specific sections and explained each of them in his own inimitable manner. He then dwelled a little bit on his favorite subject -- advertising in Masonry -- and cited reasons why we should all do some of this but not in a member-soliciting fashion but to let the profane know what he is missing. At the conclusion he was given a standing round of applause and the Worshipful Master presented him with a Certificate of Appreciation and then took it back to get it framed. A Called Communication was held on July 25, for the purpose of hearing from Brother and Senator Barry M. Goldwater, of Arizona, a former candidate for the office of President of the United States and a distinguished Senator for many years. All of the members, officers and visitors are recorded, as nearly as possible (since the Lodge room was completely packed), in the permanent register. A Master Mason's Lodge was opened and the Pledge of Allegiance was given to the Flag of our Country. This being Patriotism Night in Cherrydale Brother Norman Schmidt, a 53-year Mason from Monongahela Lodge #269, Pittsburgh, Pa. sang the Star Spangled Banner, accompanied by Brother James Curtis on the organ. The Worshipful Master announced that he would keep the introductions at a minimum this evening in the interest of time, so that we may get to the meat of the evening. MWB Stu Miner and WB Bruce McNamee presented the Past Grand Masters who were present where they were welcomed by the Master, escorted to the East and given the honors due their station. They were Most Worshipful Chas. Brewer, Gilley from D.C., Bruce Green and Stu Miner from Va. They were welcomed by the Worshipful Master and escorted to the East where they were given the honors due their high station. MWB Miner responded. Right Worshipful Joseph Miller and Most Worshipful Stu Miner then presented our distinguished guest at the Altar where he was welcomed by the Master, escorted to the East and given a warm welcome. He proceeded to address the Brethren on 'things right and wrong in our government' following which a question and answer session was held. His complete talk was recorded and is in the archives of the Lodge to assist future historians. Communications were read as follows: a letter concerning the "Chuck Rowe11 Roast" to be held at the Scottish Rite Temple on September 30. Notice of the convening of the Grand Lodge at Williamsburg, Va. to commemorate the 200th Anniversary of the Founding in 1778. A note from the Bethel #35 thanking us for all past favors and inviting the members to attend whenever possible, and another informative epistle from Brother Ivan Morrison in Belgium. The report on the sick showed that Brother Woody Hayzlett had suffered an angina attack while attending the school at Blacksburg, Va. and is being hospitalized for a few days. Brother Nagley urged the Brethren to contribute blood as the Red Cross is in urgent need; also how he had arranged for 14 pints of blood for a Brother of Ashlar Lodge in Shenandoah, Va. WB Wm. Hefflebower and Brother Vince Blasco presented Brother William A. Beverly, Venerable Master of the Lodge of Perfection of Scottish Rite Masons in the Valley of Alexandria where he was welcomed by the Worshipful Master, escorted to the East and given a fine Cherrydale welcome. He proceeded to talk about Scottish Rite Masonry, telling us first what it was NOT. He then pointed out several differences between York and Scottish Rites. He then gave a brief outline of the founding of the Scottish Rite in South Carolina and of its growth throughout the world. He gave us a brief insight of some of its teachings and urged all Brethren who had not done so to consider becoming a member. At the conclusion of his talk he was given a fine hand and presented with a certificate of appreciation, a key-chain and a copy of the National Sojourners history of Military Masonic Leaders. No further business remaining the Master Masons Lodge was closed. At the Stated Communication on September 7, the Worshipful Master extended a general greeting to all and thanked them for coming. The Pledge of Allegiance was given to the Flag of our Country. Communications were read from the Mom's and Dad's Club of Bethel #35 thanking the Lodge for all past courtesies and enclosing a check as partial payment on a 100 Club Certificate -- the balance to follow later. Also a letter from Mrs. Agnes Kelly, widow of our late Brother Harry, offering to donate to the Lodge 3 (three) graves in National Memorial Park. Also the reply of the Worshipful Master to this offer was read. A letter from Bethel #20 reference to the steak dinner on September 24. The Master then presented WB Forrest Nagley with his 25-year pin. He responded with appropriate remarks and was given a nice hand. The Worshipful Master welcomed a11 visitors, his own members, the heads of appendant bodies, the past masters and all were given a Cherrydale welcome. WB’s Carl Ford and Jack Rogers then presented RWB Charles Edward Wallace, the Grand Senior Warden of the Grand Lodge of Virginia where he was welcomed by the Master as the speaker of the evening. Brother Wallace then addressed the Lodge on the subject of Masonic Education stating that in our teachings we should advance a cause and not ourselves. We should better learn how to respect the feelings and opinions of others. The teaching of Masonry must be sincere and honest so hence we need more sincere instructors. He further stated that a Brother might know all of the ritual and not be a Mason whereas another may know little ritual but still be a fine Master Mason. We need the ritual to serve as a track to run on, however. At the close he read a paper which had been presented to him by our late Brother Hilton Bateman on the subject of what is a Mason. At the conclusion he was given a standing round of applause and the Master presented him with a Certificate of Appreciation. A Communication was read concerning the impending visit of the Grand Master to the 54th Masonic District which will be held in Kena Temple on October 14th in an open meeting with the entire family invited. Worshipful Luther Farley moved that the Lodge contribute $25.00 to the Miss Job's Daughter pageant and motion carried. The Worshipful Master went through the usual welcome procedure with a11 of our members and visitors being saluted accordingly. It being Junior Wardens Night, the Senior and Junior deacons presented the following Junior Wardens at the Altar where they were welcomed by our Junior warden, escorted to the foot of the East and given a warm welcome. Worshipful C1ive Palmer presented the speaker of the evening, Right Worshipful Hugh Parker Young, a member of this Lodge and P.D.D.G.M. of District #11, at the Altar where he was welcomed by the Junior Warden, escorted to the East and given the honors due his station. Communications were read from the Grand Lodge concerning the laying of the cornerstone of Springfield Lodge #217, the Temple to be known as the Herbert Charles Hunter Memorial Masonic Temple. Notice of Wardens’ Night of Springfield Lodge on November 13. Also notice of the Candlelight Ball of Arlington Chapter #39 O.E.S. on October 20. A resolution to change the by-laws was then read as follows: "Article II of the by-laws of Cherrydale Lodge #42 A.F.& A.M. now reads: Every member of this Lodge except the Secretary, the Treasurer, the Chaplain and the Tiler shall be charged by the Secretary with the sum of two-dollars ($2.00) as monthly dues, with the minimum the first year to be equal to the Grand Lodge dues. Be it resolved that Article II be changed to read: "Effective January 1, 1979 every member of this Lodge except the Secretary, the Treasurer, the Chaplain and the Tiler shall be charged by the Secretary with the sum of one dollar and fifty cents ($1.50) as monthly dues plus the annual capitation tax and assessment to Grand Lodge as dues." The above resolution will be acted on in November after the membership is notified. The Lodge was called up for a moment of silent reflection for Brother Oren C. Lowther who passed away in Weston, West Virginia on October 1. The Worshipful Master went through the usual welcome and all were given a fine hand. Worshipful John R. Conner and Brother Jim Curtis presented RWB Joseph A. Mi11er, the D.D.G.M., at the Altar where he was welcomed by the Master escorted to the East and given the honors due his station. He responded briefly urging the Brethren to attend the visit of the Grand Master on October 14 which will be held at Kena Temple as a family affair. Worshipful Jack Rogers was asked to come to the East and he proceeded to present a 50-year pin (in flawless fashion) to RWB Clive Warrenfeltz Palmer. At the conclusion RWB Palmer congratulated WB Rogers for his flawless performance and then proceeded to give a brief history of his activities and that of the Lodge for the past 50 years. RWB Charles E. Wallace and WB Carl D. Ford presented the speaker of the evening, RWB Lloyd U. Jefferson at the Altar where he was welcomed by the Master, escorted to the East and given the honors due his station. He proceeded to address the Lodge on Founders' Day with an unusual approach, but the main point he made was the fact that we need more Masons who are totally committed. At the conclusion he was given a fine hand and the Worshipful Master presented him with a small gift and a certificate of appreciation. WB John R. Conner made a motion that the picture of Ed Young be placed in the Lodge hall and the Master referred this request to the Temple Committee. No further business remaining to claim the attention of the Brethren the minutes were read and approved and the Master Mason's Lodge was closed. A Called Communication was held on October 12, for a Master Mason's Degree following the examination of two Fellowcraft. The Master Mason's Lodge was for the present dispensed with and a Lodge on the Second Degree in Masonry was opened for work and instruction. Brother’s Ronald Dean Ashby and Edward Clarence James, Jr. advanced to the Altar and were examined on the Fellowcraft catechism by Brother Kenneth Hanlon. The Lodge on the second degree in Masonry was then closed and the Master Mason's Lodge resumed labor. The ballot was separately circulated and spread to test the Masonic proficiency and moral fitness of Brothers Ashby and James previous to their being raised to the sublime degree of Master Mason. Each resulting in their favor they were declared elected to receive the same and the Worshipful Master announced that we would raise Brother James this evening and that Brother Ashby will be 'loaned' to Columbia Lodge and will be raised November 4 in that Lodge. Brother Edward Clarence James, Jr. was then introduced and raised to the sublime degree of Master Mason with Brother James Curtis presiding for the first section. Worshipful Jack Rogers the D.I.W. presided for the second section, Worshipful John R. Conner delivered the Lecture, and RWB Carl C. Comley, Sr. read the charge. Brother Hanlon presented Brother James with a tie tack and Brother Curtis presented him with a nametag, a Masonic token, the working tools and a Masonic penny. Brother James thanked the Lodge and his instructors for the privilege of being raised this evening. The Worshipful Master greeted Worshipful Charles Strain on his return to Lodge following a long absence due to the illness of Mrs. Strain. Announcements were made concerning the visit of the Grand Master on the 14th. Worshipful Hassan Kiser has been in hospital but is at home now recovering from surgery. The Junior Warden thanked all for their participation this evening. The Master Mason's Lodge was opened and the Worshipful Master extended a general greeting to a11 and thanked them for coming. The Pledge of Allegiance was given to the Flag of our Country. The maturing application for membership of Brother J. Melvin Miller was taken up and the ballot being spread and found clear he was declared elected to membership in Cherrydale Lodge. This being Past Masters night Worshipful Luther Farley served a bounteous dinner before the Lodge meeting and served in the East for the business portion of the evening. He invited Worshipful George Stevens to assume the East and close the Lodge and to preside over the entertainment portion. Brother Stevens had the officers, as near as possible, to serve with him that had served under him when he was Worshipful Master. At this time the Ladies were invited in, everyone was introduced, and Worshipful Homer Cooper and Most Worshipful Stu Miner gave talks concerning the rewards which come to one who serves his Lodge as an officer. A Stated Communication was held on November 2, and the Worshipful Master extended a general greeting to all and thanked them for coming. The maturing application for membership of Brother Kenneth Hanlon of Columbia Lodge #285 was taken up and the ballot being spread and found clear he was declared elected to membership in Cherrydale Lodge. Communications were read as follows: a letter from the Grand Master in reference to Sec. 2.12 of the Methodical Digest being violated and strong action would be taken against violators (raffles, bingo, etc.). A1so a proclamation by the Grand Master that a part of the stated communication in November should be set-aside for Thanksgiving. An invitation was read from Mrs. Edith Burns, Worthy Patron of Arlington Chapter #39, O.E.S. to attend the November 13 meeting when Master Masons would be honored. The resolution to change the by-laws which had been presented on October 5 was taken up and after an explanation by Worshipful Carl Ford it was unanimously adopted pending approval by the Grand Master. The Lodge was called up for a moment of silent reflection for our late brother Robert Ollie lee who died October 25, 1978. Since our Junior Deacon, Brother William Weisenburger had resigned; nominations were called for to fill this position. Brother’s Richard David Anderson and Vincent George Blasco were nominated. Brother Anderson received a majority of the ballots cast and he was declared elected. Worshipful Jack Rogers, our District Instructor of Work, then beautifully installed Brother Anderson in his new place. He was assisted by our Marshal, Worshipful Charles L. Strain. Birthdays: Brothers Jerry M. Hansbrough, Jr., Vincent G. Blasco and Donald L. Solomon assembled west of the Altar and were escorted to the foot of the East where they were given mementos of the occasion. Each of them responded, and were given a fine hand. Worshipful Charles Strain and Brother Charles Braner presented our speaker of the evening, Rev. Brother Thomas E. Weir at the Altar where he was welcomed by the Worshipful Master, escorted to the East and was given a Cherrydale welcome. He then proceeded to address the Lodge on Scottish Masonry. He described a beautiful window in an abbey in Scotland where workmen were depicted using a square, level and plumb. He stated the original definition of cowan was a builder of a dry-stone wall. The first building completely used as a Masonic Hall was built in 1719 in Scotland and housed Cannongate-Kilwinning Lodge #2. He then told several stories concerning our beloved Brother Bobby Burns and of his love for all mankind. He then told several other amusing and meaningful stories. At the conclusion he was given a standing round of applause and the Worshipful Master presented him with a certificate of appreciation, a souvenir and a copy of our Lodge history. Announcements were made of coming events and all were urged to attend especially Columbia Lodge #295 on November 4 where our Brother Ronald Dean Ashby will be raised by Columbia past masters. Also on November 6 Potomac Lodge #5 will have a Virginia night. , The Worshipful Master presented Brother James with a copy of the Presentation Volume and an application for the Masonic Benefit Fund. A Stated Communication was held on November 16, the Worshipful Master extended a general greeting to all and thanked them for coming, especially those from the National Sojourners, Inc. who were there to support our speaker of the evening. The Pledge of Allegiance was given to the Flag of our Country. An application for membership was received from Brother William Mason Dougherty now a member of Caledonia Lodge #416, New Albany, Ohio. He is recommended and vouched for by our two newest Master Masons, Brothers Ronald Ashby and Kenneth Hanlon. It was ordered received and to lie over for the statutory period. Communications were read as follows: invitation to installation of officers of Bethel #4 on Dec. 2 and pancake breakfast on December 9; letter of thanks from 1978 Jobs' Daughter pageant. The Worshipful Master appointed an audit committee composed of Brothers Charles Braner, Chairman and Jerry S, Collins and Guy R, Bowers, to report on December 7. Worshipful Erskine Stewart stated that the Lodge had had a good year and suggested that we might make donations to two of our sister lodges, Frank P. Moncure #279 and Sharon #327. The Sr. Warden then moved that we donate $75 to each of them and the Secretary offered a substitute motion that we make it an even $100 which substitute carried. Brother Vincent Blasco and WB Bruce W. McNamee then presented the speaker of the evening, Bro. LaVon P. Linn at the Altar where he was welcomed by the Master, escorted to the East and given a fine Cherrydale welcome. He being our Thanksgiving Speaker he began by reciting; the 100th Psalm which was the favorite Psalm of Priscilla Mullen who helped celebrate our first Thanksgiving at Plymouth Rock. (Our speaker then mentioned that his late wife was a direct descendant of Priscilla Mullen and traced her genealogy.) He then dwelled on the many Nationalities who make up our Country and that America was Great because she is Good but if she stops being Good she will no longer be Great. Although his talk was of short duration it presented a wonderful lesson for all of us. At the conclusion the Worshipful Master presented him with a certificate of appreciation and he was given a standing ovation. The annua1 lodge Memorial Service was then conducted by the Master and the Wardens, assisted by Rev. Bro. Woodrow Hayzlett, Brother Robert Dean Ashby and the Secretary. The deceased who were memorialized were Brothers Oren Clell Lowther, Robert Ollie Lee, Cornelis Johannes Jacobus Vos, Lawson Bertram Souder, George H. Crickenberger, John Henry Joyner and Edward Everett Odom. All of the above reports as well as the report of WB Forrest Nagley on the Blood Bank were made a part of the minutes of this meeting. All of the bills were read and ordered paid. The report on the sick showed Bernard Marcey has had open-heart surgery in Fairfax Hospital. Rt. Worshipful Chester M. The Officers for 1979 were then installed by Right Worshipful Charles Harris Rowell, Division lecturer of Division #6 assisted by Worshipful Charles L. Strain as Marshal. The performance was beautiful and at the conclusion the Worshipful Master presented Brother Chuck with a Certificate of Appreciation and a gift as tokens of his appreciation. Worshipful Bro. Stewart then presented the new Master with a beautiful gavel on a plaque on behalf of Bro. Braner's family and a beautiful pocket watch, suitably engraved from Bro. Braner's wife. He also presented him with a Master's lapel pin, which is being passed along from one Master to another. Worshipful Bro. McNamee presented a Past Master's Jewel to the junior Past Master, Worshipful Erskine Stewart. This jewel had been originally worn by Brother John Warner, the Master of Cherrydale in 1923 and was re-cycled for this occasion. Brother Jerry Collins presented the new Master with a combination Master-Past Master's apron on behalf of the Lodge and the new Master presented Brother Collins with a Senior Warden lapel pin and he in turn presented Brother Ben Smith with a Jr. Warden's lapel pin; both of these are also being passed along each year. Right Worshipful Hallie Lightle presented the new Master with a Masonic clock on behalf of Bro. Braner's Brother-in-law, Brother French and his wife. Worshipful Brother Braner then requested Worshipful F. R. Nagley and Bro. Harry McDermith to approach the East and he presented them with a gift as each of them had been the voucher on his petition. The Worshipful Master then went through the usual welcome greeting visitors who had not served as Worshipful Master, his own members, visiting past masters, his own past masters, Heads of appendant bodies, Grand lodge Committeemen, etc. and Grand Lodge officers. Worshipfuls Stewart and Strain then presented the Worshipful Masters at the Altar where they were greeted by the Master, escorted to the East and given the honors due their station. Worshipful Brother Glascock responded. Right Worshipful Carl Comley and Worshipful George Stevens then presented the Grand Master of the District of Columbia, Most Worshipful Morris Frankie Hewit at the Altar where he was welcomed by the Master, escorted to the East and given the honors due him. He responded briefly in his own style. The Worshipful Master then opened a Lodge of Sorrow to remain open for the year and to be closed as his last official act. Proxies for the stationed officers were then elected as follows: Worshipful Erskine Stewart for the Worshipful Master; Bro. Anderson for the Sr. Warden and Bro. Souther for the Jr. Warden. The maturing application by Brother William Mason Daugherty of Caledonia Lodge No. 416, New Albany, Ohio for membership in Cherrydale Lodge was taken up, the ballot spread and being found clear, he was declared elected. There were no new or maturing petitions. Communications were read as follows: Notes from Mrs. Elsie R. Briggs and Mrs. Martha F. Rauh, thanking, the Lodge for Christmas remembrances; a letter from Brother Charles T. MacDonald, greeting his Lodge Brethren and enclosing a check for the Masonic Home in the amount of $50.00; a letter from Brother F. Vaughn Ferguson, who has moved to Venice, Florida, requesting a dimit from Cherrydale Lodge. Brother Ferguson, being clear on the books, has been given his dimit by order of the Worshipful Master who also instructed the Secretary to write to Brother Ferguson, wishing him well in his new home and informing him of the need for him to affiliate with a Lodge within six months of the date of the demit. Bills were read and ordered paid. The sick report showed Brother Steve Hollingsworth to be still confined to Northern Virginia Hospital; Brother Bernard Marcey was reported to be recovering well from open heart surgery; it was reported that Brother Woody Hayzlett had recently been in an auto accident and Mrs. Ruth Hoy, wife of our Past Master William E. Hoy, was reported to have undergone extensive surgery that, serious as it was, had not been as radical as had been feared. The Worshipful Master urged Lodge members to visit Mrs. Juanita Foltz, widow of our late Brother Guy Foltz. Worshipful Bro. Dudley reported on numerous visits he made to deliver Christmas remembrances to our widows. A letter was read from Worshipful Bro. Luther B. Farley, Sr., resigning the Presidency and membership in the Cherryda1e Temple Corporation. His resignation was accepted with regret and it was announced that a nomination for a replacement for Worshipful Bro. Farley in the Corporation would be made at the January 18 communication. Subsequently, Right Worshipful Carl C. Comley, Sr. paid a well-deserved tribute to Worshipful Bro. Farley for his many services and contributions to Cherrydale Lodge. The Worshipful Master read a letter he had received from Bro. M. Suddath of Charlotte, North Carolina, commending Senior Warden Jerry Collins for an emergency service rendered by him in a highway incident some time back and enclosing a hand tooled leather belt with Masonic buckle as a gift to Bro. French Lodge No . 15, Washington, D.C. , John Wayne Cross of Glebe No. 181 and William Glascock of Concord No. 307 were presented at the altar by Worshipful Brothers Charles L. Strain and Carl D. Ford and were invited to the East where they were saluted. Worshipful Adams responded, with greetings on behalf of his Lodge. Worshipful Brothers Adams and Farley presented Worshipful Thomas E. Mutchler, Past Master of Benjamin B. French Lodge, at the Altar and escorted him to the East where he was saluted. Worshipful Brother Mutchler, an officer of the Fellowcraft Club of Benjamin B. French Lodge, proceeded to address the Lodge on the purposes of the Fellowcraft Club, closing with a cordial invitation to qualified Masons to affiliate with the Club, assist in its work and enjoy its fellowship. A report on the sick showed that Brother Charles Medford continued ill in a grave condition; Bro. Steve Hollingsworth is still a patient at Northern Virginia Doctors Hospital and his progress towards recovery is slow; Mrs. Ruth Hoy, wife of Past Master William E. Hoy, is making satisfactory recovery following extensive surgery and Bro. Pete Kale has been released from the hospital and is now at a nursing home in nearby Maryland. Announcements were made concerning the Masters and Wardens Association's quarterly meeting and dinner; the annual fish fry at Arlington Masonic Temple and upcoming events at sister Lodges. Worshipful Forrest R. Nagley reported on the results of the December Bloodmobile; he was applauded for his efforts and the Worshipful Master ordered a copy of his report to be attached to and made a part of these minutes. RWB Parker told the Lodge that the bright lights of new members who come into the Lodge with high aspirations must be kept burning by making them responsible for specific Lodge duties; he urged those present to make special efforts to get to those members who seldom or never come to Lodge and impress upon them how much they are missing. He said, "...we have no greater calling than to give another the chance to share the joys of Masonry". Cherrydale Lodge convened a Lodge of Sorrow at Memorial Baptist Church, 3455 N. Glebe Road, Arlington, Va. on January 29, 1979 to pay the last tribute of respect to our late Brother, Charles Milton Medford, who died January 26. The Worshipful Master declared the Lodge of Sorrow at labor at 12:30 P. M. Following the funeral service of the Baptist church the Lodge of Sorrow proceeded to Glenwood Cemetery in Washington, D.C. where the Worshipful Master, Charles H. Braner, conducted the graveside service with Worshipful Forrest R. Nagley as Chaplain. Those present were Worshipful Russell Shoap of Glebe No. 181 as Senior Warden; Worshipful Tom Mutchler of Glebe No. 181 as Junior Warden; Worshipful Elmer W. Wiseman, Treasurer; Worshipful Erskine Stewart, Secretary; Bro. Vince Blasco as Senior Deacon; Bro. Dennis Ladd as Junior Deacon; Bro. Ira Jump as Steward; Bro. Sol Cohen of Glebe No. 181, Bearer of the Great Light; Bro. Kenneth Cann as Tiler and Worshipful William D. Hefflebower as Marshal. Also present were Worshipful Karl McCormick, Glebe No. 181; Worshipful Arthur Wise, Bros. Carl Brockway and Mallory Wooster of Columbia No. 285 and Bros. All officers, members and visitors are recorded in the permanent register. The Master Mason's Lodge was opened in due and ancient form and the Worshipful Master extended a general greeting to all and thanked them for coming. The minutes of the January 18 Communication were sketched for information and the minutes of the Lodge of Sorrow of January 29 were read and approved. A new petition was received from Mr. Harold Robert Buttrum, Jr., recommended by Bro. D. L. Bonner of Killeen (Texas) Lodge No. 1125 and Bro. John B. Oren, Glen Burnie (Maryland) Lodge No. 213. The petition was read and ordered to lie over for the statutory period and the Worshipful Master appointed a committee consisting of Worshipful Forrest R. Nagley and Bros. Gary Hennig and Edward James. A fee of $25.00 accompanied the petition. A communication was read from Bro. Lon Thomas, who now resides in Tyler, Texas, stating that his wife, is seriously ill with cancer. The bills were read and all were ordered paid. The sick report showed that Bro. Claude Kitts of Occoquan Lodge and a frequent visitor to Cherrydale suffered a serious heart attack and is in extensive care at Circle Terrace Hospital in Alexandria; Bro. Bernard Marcey is recovering slowly from recent surgery; Worshipful Bill Sisk, Past Master of Potomac Lodge No. 5 in Washington and a frequent visitor to Cherrydale, had suffered the fracture of both kneecaps while vacationing in Texas; Mrs. Ruth Hoy, wife of P.M. William E. Hoy, is recovering slowly at Fairfax Hospital, where she underwent extensive surgery 5 weeks ago, and Bro. Steve Hollingsworth, who has been confined to Northern Virginia Doctors Hospital for some time, has now undergone surgery to amputate a toe. The Lodge was called up for a moment of silent reflection for Bro. Charles M. Medford, who died on January 26, 1979, and Bro. Theodore Berger, who died in Florida in December but whose death had just been reported to the Lodge. It was discovered that no visitors were present. The Worshipful Master went through the usual introductions, each being followed by applause from the Lodge. The Masonic birthdays of Worshipful A. Dale Ireland, Bros. Pezzella and Curtis. Each responded graciously and the Worshipful Master presented each with a memento of the occasion. Following the announcements, Worshipful Carl D. Ford, who had been appointed Chairman of a Committee to examine and make recommendations concerning resolutions to be voted on at the forthcoming Grand Lodge, was recognized. A Called Communication of Cherrydale Lodge was held on February 8, 1979. The Master Mason’ s Lodge was opened in due and ancient form and the Worshipful Master extended a general greeting to those present. Worshipful Brother McNamee announced that it seemed likely that Rt. Wor. Ralph J. Wimmer, former Grand Chaplain, would be elected Grand Junior Deacon at the forthcoming Grand Lodge meeting. The Master Mason's Lodge was for the present dispensed with and a Lodge on the first degree of Masonry was opened for work and instruction, with Bro. Jerry Co1lins as Worshipful Master pro tem, Bro. Jim, Curtis as Senior Warden pro tem and WB John R. Conner as Treasurer pro tem. The Junior Deacon escorted Bro. Edward George Shipley to the Altar where he was examined, on his Entered Apprentice catechism by Bro. Ed James. The Lodge on the first degree of Masonry was then closed and the Master Mason's Lodge resumed labor. The ballot was circulated and then spread to test the Masonic proficiency and moral fitness of Bro. Shipley previous to his being passed to the degree of Fellowcraft. Each resulting in his favor, Bro. Shipley was declared elected to receive the same. The Master Mason's Lodge was again dispensed with and a Lodge on the second degree of Masonry was opened for work and instruction. Bro. Edward George Shipley was then introduced and passed to the degree of Fellowcraft with Bro. Ben Smith and WB Forrest R. Nagley in the East, the Secretary having first announced that he had collected the necessary fee. Bro. Jerry Collins gave the Senior Deacon’s lecture, WB Nagley gave the Middle Chamber lecture and WB John R. Conner read the charge. Ed James, who had himself, been raised to the Sublime Degree of Master Mason only four months earlier, was complimented on the manner in which he had conducted the E. The reading of the minutes of the Stated Communication of February 1 and the Called Communication of February 8 was dispensed with in accordance with a resolution approved at the recent meeting of the Grand Lodge which made such dispensations discretionary. Hugh Falconer, Tom Watkins and Elva Rhoads; and a letter of appreciation from Mrs. Charles M. Medford concerning the graveside services recently conducted for her husband and our late Brother Medford. The bills were read and all were ordered paid. The sick report showed that Mrs. Ruth Hoy, wife of our Past Master, William E. Hoy, had been moved to a nursing home pending further treatment to be given at Georgetown University Hospital. The Worshipful Master then asked Rt. Wor. John C. Parker to approach the East. He then asked MW Stewart W. Miner and Wor. Luther B. Farley, Sr. to escort Wor. Bruce W. McNamee to the East where he was installed as District Deputy Grand Master of Masons in the 54th Masonic District by Rt. Wor. Parker, who invested Rt. Wor. McNamee with the jewel of his office and presented him with the warrant of his appointment. The Lodge was called up and saluted Rt. Wor. McNamee, who then proceeded to respond with a short message mixed with sincerity and levity. The Worshipful Master, on behalf of the officers presented Rt. Wor. McNamee a case for his apron and a register of those present on this occasion. Subsequently, Wor. John Wayne Cross, Master of Glebe Lodge No. 181 presented him with a Methodist Hymnal. A cordial welcome was extended by the Worshipful Master to his own members, visitors, Past Masters and Grand Lodge Committeemen. Rt. Wor. Charles H. Rowell and Wor. Jack Rogers were asked to present the Worshipful Masters at the Altar where they were greeted formally by the Worshipful Master, invited to the East and given the honors due their station. Wor. John Wayne Cross responded on their behalf. The Worshipful Masters so greeted and honored were MW Stewart W. Miner of Justice-Columbia No. 3 in Washington, Worshipfuls Al Conlan of Sharon No. 327, William Glascock of Concord No. 307, Orval Smith of Arlington Centennial No. 81 and John Wayne Cross of Glebe No. 181. It was announced that Rt. Wor. Ralph Wimmer had been elected Grand Junior Deacon of Masons in Virginia. It was also reported that, in addition to the above-mentioned resolution concerning dispensing with the reading of minutes of previous Communications, delegates, by a vote of 118-103 approved an amended resolution to expand the Masonic Home of Virginia. Junior Deacon spoke of the high quality of training available at the schools conducted at Grand Lodge; Senior Warden Collins commented on his favorable impressions of the 1979 Grand Lodge, as did Junior Warden Smith, who also spoke of the fellowship there. Bro. Ira Jump and Bro. Jim Curtis spoke favorably of the event. Rt. Wor. Charles Rowell spoke of logistical difficulties in conducting Grand Lodge schools. Rt. Wor. Parker commented on the proper form for submitting resolutions for Grand Lodge consideration, as enunciated in the Methodical Digest and admonished the Brethren to familiarize themselves with this procedure and urged them to participate in Grand Lodge proceedings and business. Bro. Parker expanded his remarks to include a report on his recent Florida trip, where he visited with Wor. C. 0. Christianson and Bro. Morris Sitkin. Announcements were made concerning the Jobs Daughters Moms and Dads pancake breakfast to be held on Saturday, February 24; the Grand Master's visit to Alexandria-Washington Lodge in Alexandria on February 22 and the first official visit of the new District Deputy Grand Master, scheduled for Columbia Lodge No. 285 on Monday, February 19. A Stated Communication was held on March 1, 1979. The Master Mason’s Lodge was opened in due and ancient form and the Worshipful Master extended a general greeting to all and thanked them for coming, following which the Pledge of Allegiance was given to the Flag of our country. An alarm was sounded at the door and the Tiler announced that Right Worshipful Bruce Winfield McNamee, District Deputy Grand Master of the 54th Masonic District was in waiting. The Worshipful Master appointed a Committee consisting of Most Worshipful Stewart W. Miner and Right Worshipful John C. Parker to wait on the District Deputy Grand Master. Subsequently the Committee escorted him to the Altar where he was introduced and the Worshipful Master invited him to the East where he was given the honors of his office. The District Deputy Grand Master asked the Worshipful to continue with the Lodge’s business after which he would have a message for the Brethren. The minutes of the Stated Communication were sketched for information. The maturing petition of Mr. Harold Robert Buttrum, Jr. was read. The vouchers for Mr. Buttrum not being present, the Worshipful Master ordered the petition put over until the first Stated Communication in April and instructed the Secretary to contact the vouchers and ask them to be present at that time. There were no other petitions, non or maturing. Communications were read as follows: A Grant Lodge Proclamation reaffirming faith in and support for our youth and ordering that a Lodge Communication during 1979 be set aside to honor our youth; a letter from the wife of Wor. Oliver Creekmore, a veteran of Cherrydale Lodge, stating that his health has not been good but that he now seems better; a letter from Bro. Elmer Wahlberg stating that he is totally and permanently disabled and asking if some concession could be made concerning his 1979 dues as well as his 1978 dues which are now in arrears. After discussion the Worshipful Master order Bro. Wahlberg’s dues for both years remitted. The death of Mrs. Ruth Hoy, wife of P. M. William E. Hoy, on February 24 was announced, as was the recent death of the wife of our Brother, John Jordan. The sick report showed that Wor. Bill Sisk, a regular visitor to Cherrydale, is now recuperating at the home of his daughter following extensive injuries sustained in a fall and would welcome visitors, and that Wor. George Stevens is ill, apparently with a seasonal virus. Bro. Dwight Townsend reported on his attendance at a meeting of the Management Committee of the Masonic Benefit Fund. The Worshipful Master appointed Bro. Townsend to continue to represent the Lodge at these meetings. Wor. Charles Strain reported that the endowment life insurance policy on the life of Bro. George Haymaker has matured and the policy has been sent to the Masonic Home for further action; MW Stewart Miner suggested that a new policy now be taken on the life of our youngest member and he was supported in this suggestion by Bro. Jurney Guy. Bro. Harry Slatin reported briefly on a highlight of his recent trip to Israel where he was permitted to examine a most unusual emblem said to have been fashioned from a stone from the ruins of King Solomon's Temple. The Worshipful Master ordered the Marshal to station himself at the Altar, there to present the Brethren observing their Masonic birthdays. They were: Bros. Dwight Townsend, J. Barron Nach. William M. Smith, E. V. Fritzwolter and Robert Weaver. The Worshipful Master invited them to the East where they were given a round of applause and presented with mementos of the occasion. A letter from the Grand Secretary was read, which called for Lodge nominations for District Deputy Grand Master for the year 1980. Other communications included an invitation from Job’s Daughters, Bethel No. 39 to a meeting in honor of other branches of the Masonic family; an invitation from Chapter No. 39, OES to their Spring Candlelight Ball and a card from Rt. Wor. Carl Comley, Sr., who is on a trip through the deep southern states and across to Texas. Announcements were made concerning the Area Conference to be held on Saturday, March 17 and the Grand Masters visits on March 15 to Henry Lodge on March 16 and to Andrew Jackson Lodge on the 17th. A Stated Communication of Cherrydale Lodge No. was held on April 19, 1979. It being Senior Warden's Night, Brother Jerry Collins was in the East and Wor. John G. Dudley served at opening as Senior Warden Pro Tem. The Master Mason's Lodge was opened in due and ancient form. The Worshipful Master extended a general greeting to all and thanked them for coming. The pledge of allegiance to the flag of our country was given, after which the Worshipful Master waived the reading of the minutes of the Stated Communication of April 5 but asked that the minutes of the Called Communication of April 12 be sketched for information. Communications from Mrs. Martha Wilson, a Cherrydale widow, and from Memorial Lodge No. l, Denver, Colorado, concerning the courtesy funeral conducted by that Lodge for Cherrydale's late Brother Maurice 0. Sinclair. The sick report showed that Bro. Harry McDermith continues to recover from injuries sustained in a recent accident and that Wor. Bill Sisk, a regular visitor to Cherrydale, is now at his own home following a serious accident and he would welcome visitors. Announcements were made concerning the Masters and Wardens dinner scheduled for April 24; the Bloodmobile program for May 12 and the Job's Daughters' steak dinner at Arlington Masonic Temple scheduled April 28. Senior Wardens present were Bros. Leon Judy (Columbia 285), Louis Wilson (Sharon 327), Joe Marceron (Justice-Columbia No. 3, Washington), and Walter McIntyre (Concord 307). Cross responded on their behalf and conveyed the regrets of his Senior Warden's absence from this meeting due to a trip away from the area. At their request, MW Stewart W. Miner, Past Grand Master and R.W. Bruce W. McNamee, District Deputy Grand Master of the 54th District, were introduced at their seats. MW Miner and RW McNamee were then asked to present MW John B. Layton, Past Grand Master of Masons in the District of Columbia, at the altar. He was invited to the East, the Lodge called up and paid him the honors due his illustrious Masonic career. MW Layton then proceeded to address the Lodge eloquently on the history of the columns used by the Wardens in some jurisdictions, the historical seating and duties of the Wardens and the significance of the columns used by them. MW Layton preceded his formal address with statements of praise for Bro. Jerry Collins and MW Stewart W. Miner and the latter' s contributions to D. C. Masonry and the development of reciprocal arrangements between Lodges in the District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia, which have been mutually advantageous to all three jurisdictions. At the conclusion of his address MWB Layton was given a standing round of applause and was presented with a gift by the Worshipful Master. A Stated Communication of Cherrydale Lodge No. 42 was held on May 3, 1979. After a pancake and sausage dinner in the social hall, the Master Mason's Lodge was opened in due and ancient form at 7:30 P. M. The pledge of allegiance to the flag of our country was given, followed by a sketching of the minutes of the Stated Communication of April 19. Communications were read, consisting of an invitation from Hiram Lodge No. 10, Washington, D. C. concerning a get-together of Lodges in Maryland, Virginia and Washington on May 19; a card of thanks from Brother Thomas Crouch for a message of condolence upon the death of his wife. The maturing petition of Mr. Scott H. Schley was taken up and read and the ballot, being spread and found clear, he was declared elected to receive the first degree in Masonry. He dwelt upon the Chaplain's responsibilities in setting the spiritual atmosphere of Masonry which, he said, is not itself a religion but a friend and ally of religion. He characterized Freemasonry as a patriotic fraternity whose secrecy is not subversive but are available to all who seek them out. His own experience as a minister, he said, had taught him that good Masons make good church members, loyal and sacrificial patriots. He said that Masonry desires to help produce better men but does not pressure to be a spiritual substitute. At the conclusion of his remarks Bro. Hayzlett was given a standing round of applause and he was presented with a certificate of appreciation by the Worshipful Master and a memento of the occasion. Bro. June 7, 1979 - Visit of the Grand Master A Stated Communication of Cherrydale Lodge No. 42 was held on June 7, 1979. There were 73 Brethren in attendance. The Master Mason's Lodge was opened in due and ancient form at 7:45 P. M. The Worshipful Master extended a general greeting to all and thanked them for coming, after which the pledge of allegiance to the flag of our country was given. There was an alarm at the door and the Tiler announced that Most Worshipful Matthew Lyle Lacy, II, Grand Master of Masons in Virginia, was in waiting. The Worshipful Master appointed a Committee consisting of RW Bruce W. McNamee, RW William E. Poindexter and MW Stewart W. Miner to wait upon the Grand Master. There was a second alarm at the door and the Tiler announced the Committee with the Grand Master, who was escorted to the Altar and presented. The Worshipful Master welcomed him, called up the Lodge and invited the Grand Master to the East where he was paid the honors due his high station. The Grand Master suggested that the Lodge proceed with its business, after which he would claim the attention of the Brethren. Reading of the minutes of the Stated Communication of May 17 was waived but the minutes of the Called Communication of May 31 were sketched for information. There were no new or maturing petitions. Wallace, Deputy Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Virginia, is suffering extensively from a rheumatoid problem. In honor of their Masonic birthdays, Brothers Vincent G. Blasco and James C. Biller were presented at the altar and invited to the East where the Worshipful Master presented them with mementos of the occasion. Each responded briefly and were warmly applauded. Brother Thomas Atwood, one of Cherrydale's oldest members in point of age was given a special greeting. WB Herbert Koehne, the 54th District Educational Officer and Commander of Arlington Commandery No. 29 was recognized and welcomed, followed by the introduction of Grand Lodge Committeemen, Grand Lodge Representatives and District Instructors of Work. The Grand Master then assumed the East and congratulated the Masons in this area for the tremendous job they are doing, singling out Cherrydale for its support for the Masonic Home of Virginia. The Grand Master then proceeded to address the Lodge, admonishing Masons to the kind of persistence demonstrated by Brother George Rogers Clark throughout his service to the nation and especially for his recapture of Fort Sackville, near Vincennes, Indiana, from the British during the War of the Revolution. The Grand Master, who had just returned from the 200th anniversary celebration of the Fort Sackville incident, sponsored by Indiana Masons, cautioned Masons against applying to their Fraternity that annoyance so often manifest by modern society when things do not work as well as they should, urging and recommending Brother Clark's kind of commitment to our tasks if Masonry is to flourish and grow. Most Worshipful Lacy completed his message with the reading of an inspirational poem. At the close of his remarks the Grand Master was given an enthusiastic standing round of applause. The Worshipful Master presented him with a 100 CLUB CERTIFICATE, attesting to the fact that Cherrydale Lodge had made a $100 gift in his name to the Masonic Home of Virginia. Waiving the reading of the minutes but ordering that copies be sent to him and the Grand Secretary, the Grand Master then closed the Master Mason's Lodge in ancient form and harmony at 9:17 P. M.

The minutes of the June 7 Communication were read in their entirety and approved, reading of the same having been waived by the Grand Master upon his visit on that date. There were no new or maturing petitions and no communications. All of the bills were read and ordered paid. The sick report showed that Brothers Jim Curtis and Ken Hanlon were recuperating satisfactorily following recent illnesses; RW Charles E. Wallace, Deputy Grand Master, continues to be restricted and limited in his activities by a rheumatoid disorder and it was reported that Wor. George Stevens was undergoing examination and would possibly have surgery at Arlington Hospital. Routine announcements were made concerning St. John's Day services to be held jointly for the six Lodges in the 54th District at Mr. Olivet Methodist Church on Sunday, June 24; the Lodge picnic, to be held jointly with the other three Arlington Lodges would be held at Glen Carlyn Park on July 14 and the Grand Master's dinner would be held at the Scottish Rite Temple on September 29 on the occasion of his official visit to Districts lA, 1B and 54. It was also announced that tickets were on sale for the Lazy Susan Dinner Theater's presentation of "Sound of Music" on September 21, the theater having been bought out by the six Lodges of the 54th District for that evening. All were warmly applauded in turn. This being the Communication set aside for observance of the Feast of St. John the Baptist, the speaker for the evening, Wor. Forrest R. Nagley, Chaplain of Cherrydale Lodge, was presented at the Altar by a committee consisting of Worshipful Brothers Hefflebower and Farley. He was invited to the East and proceeded to address the Lodge, centering his remarks around two personal experiences to link him, personally, with St. John the Baptist. In the first WB Nagley recounted a strong sensation felt by him following a serious surgical experience in which he felt himself to be in a divine presence. In the second, during a silent prayer moment in his church he recalled a prayer he had uttered in a dream which he subsequently learned was identical to the prayer uttered by Zechariah -a Rabbinical prayer- when he presented his son, John the Baptist, to the service of God. From these the speaker wove a rationalization of Masonry's dedication to the Holy St.’s. John and especially to St. John the Baptist. At the conclusion of his remarks WB Nagley was given a standing round of applause. Ken Hanlon and Jim Curtis, both of whom were in Lodge, continue their recuperation from recent illnesses and RW Charles E. Wallace, DGM, is improving. Bro. Melvin Miller suffered a heart attack during a trip to western U. S. The Worshipful Master ordered the Marshal to present the Masonic birthday celebrants at the altar, after which they were invited to the East where they were presented with mementos of the occasion. They were Wor. James F. Thomason and Bros. Ben Smith, Waverly McCoy and Bob Cohen, each of whom responded briefly but warmly. It being Out of State Masons night, visitors in this category were introduced, after which local visitors, members of Cherrydale, visiting Past Masters, Cherrydale Past Masters, Grand Lodge officers, committeemen and representatives were introduced. The District Deputy Grand Master, Bruce W. McNamee, and Past Grand Master, MW Stewart W. Miner, were introduced at their seats. All were warmly applauded. Miscellaneous announcements were made. The speaker of the evening, Bro. W. J. Baird, was presented at the altar by Bros. Erick V. Fritzwolter and John Oden, who escorted him to the East. Bro. Baird's address was of a patriotic nature. He observed that, although it is largely overshadowed by concern over the developments of recent days, which have seen massive shake-ups at top levels of the government, there still appears to be great evidence of hope and optimism across the country. But, he said, there is growing demand by the people for firmer leadership by our top officials. America's economy, he said, is out of phase with the economies of the rest of the world because of governmental actions that tend to serve the people instead of policies of encouraging the people to serve themselves. "We have come to a position of too little emphasis on the firm values that made our country great; the values that are to be found in the basic concept of Masonry", Bro. Baird told the Lodge. He urged a national return to those values. At the conclusion of his remarks Bro. Baird was given a standing round of applause and was presented with a certificate of appreciation. Pete Kale is still confined to a nursing home in Clinton, Md. and Mrs. Anthony Pezzella, wife of our Tiler, is hospitalized with a back problem. He stated that Cherrydale' s posture with respect to qualifying for the James Noah Hillman award was "good". Emurian, pastor of Cherrydale Methodist Church, who is renowned for his entertaining orations, his musical compositions and renditions of them. Following a songfest and in an address interspersed with many humorous stories, Dr. Emurian spoke lovingly of the glorious history of the great state of Virginia, emphasizing the dignity with which General Robert E. Lee surrendered at Appomattox and the magnanimous way in which General Grant accepted that surrender. This led to the point that the character of our lives is of more lasting meaningfulness than any individual victories we might achieve. He stated further that the ruins of Athens and Rome and, to no less extent, the problems of the city of Washington, D. C. are, more than anything else, symbols of what those cities stand for in terms of culture and bastions of freedom. At the conclusion of his address Dr. Emurian was given a standing round of applause. The Worshipful Master presented him with a Certificate of Appreciation and a patriotic volume concerning the Constitution. Bro. Erskine Stewart and RW Stewart W. Miner introduced the Past Masters of Cherrydale at the Lodge. They were Worshipfuls Anderson B. Honts (1932), RW Clive W. Palmer (1936), RW John C. Parker (1942) William D. Hefflebower (1949), Elmer W. Wiseman (1952), Elmore Newlon (1954) , George D. Stevens, (1959), Homer F. Cooper (1963), John R. Conner (1964), Stewart W. Miner (1965), Bruce W. McNamee (1966), Mark T. Hess (1971), Charles L. Strain (1972), Hassan Kiser (1974), John G. Dudley, Jr. (1976), Luther B. Farley, Sr. (1977) and Erskine Stewart (1978). They were invited to the East, the Lodge was called up and saluted them. Most Worshipful Stewart W. Miner responded with a short address in which he urged pride in our past, enthusiasm for our present and anticipation, for the future. He stated that each of our Past Masters were colorful in his individual way. In specific references he called attention to the traits and characteristics of each of the Past Masters that are to be admired and desired. Those who are now officers were commended, especially for their emphasis on family and fellowship. He concluded with a most touching prayer for our departed Brother, Carl D. Ford and was warmly applauded. Wor. Irving Turner introduced the Past Masters of Columbia Lodge No. 285 at the altar. They were MW H. Bruce Green,(1932), Worshipfuls Leonard T. Golden (1952), Joseph C. Harry (1953), Artur R. Wise (1958) William H. Keener (1961), Arthur C. Penn (1964), Fred Bridgeman (1965), Leonard W. Frye (1966), J. D. Sylvester (1968), Charles Necessary (1971), Harry L. Grimm (1972), Dolph W. Biggs (1973), J. Elwood Clements (1974), Louis W. Craver (1976), Robert E. Moore (1977) and Irving Turner (1978). They were cordially greeted, invited to the East and the Lodge called up to salute them. MW Bruce Green responded. He stated that his heart, like all of ours, was draped in mourning at the passing of Wor. Carl D. Ford. In a beautiful eulogy MW Green called attention to the multitude of weaknesses in all of us who are so helpless without the aid of the Great Architect and so unwilling to call upon Him for His help. He urged us to a greater familiarity with the Great Light and a closer, more prayerful relationship with that Book. At the conclusion of his comforting and inspiring remarks he was given a standing round of applause. RW's Charles Rowell and Charles Sinclair presented the remaining Past Masters at the altar. They were 25 in number, representing 12 Lodges other than Cherrydale. Wor. R. J. Matthews responded briefly and they were applauded. RW A. B. Honts, Cherrydale's most senior Past Master (1932) spoke briefly but with sincerity, warmth and good humor, after which he was applauded. Routine announcements were made, followed by short remarks by several Brothers present which added to the fellowship of the evening. RW Charles A. Sinclair, Jr. was invited to the East, and he addressed the Lodge briefly in tribute to Past Masters. He included the recitation of the poem "Builders", which had as its theme the work of an elderly builder whose labors were for the Master. In closing the program for the evening, Wor. Master Pro Tem Conner reviewed his own Masonic career with references to many of the Brethren he has known along the way. He recalled those items of ritual which related to his biblical readings and his youthful encounters with Masonry which led to his memorizing the poem, "Tubalcane" which he read. M. with RW Charles E. Wallace reciting the Charge at the Altar. A Called Communication of Cherrydale Lodge No. 42 was held on October 11, 1979. A Master Mason's Lodge was opened in due and ancient form at 7:34 P. M. with Bro. Ed James as Senior Deacon. The Worshipful Master announced that this Communication had been called for work in the second degree of Masonry. The Master Mason's Lodge was for the present dispensed with and a Lodge on the Second Degree of Masonry was opened in due and ancient form. Bro. Scott H. Schley was received and passed to the degree of Fellowcraft, the Secretary having previously announced that the necessary fee had been received. For the first section Wor. Forrest R. A Stated Communication of Cherrydale Lodge No. 42 was held on October 18, 1979. A Master Mason's Lodge was opened in due and ancient form at 7:44 P. M. The Worshipful Master extended a general greeting to all and thanked them for coming and for their support. The Pledge of allegiance to the flag of our country was given. The minutes of the Stated Communication of October 4 and the Lodge of Sorrow of that date were sketched and read, with the minutes for the latter being approved. There were no new or maturing petitions. Communications were read as follows: A letter from Bro. Carroll Atnipp, who, in response to the Masonic Home Endowment Fund solicitation, offered to give two lots in National Memorial Park, Falls Church, to the Masonic Home; the Secretary's reply to this offer by Bro. Atnipp; a letter from Bro. Kenneth Cann, Worthy Patron of Arlington Chapter No. 39, OES, inviting Cherrydale's members to Master Mason's Night on November 12; a letter concerning the minutes of the Joint Communication on September 29 to receive the Grand Master of Masons, which enclosed the minutes of that Communication. Those minutes were read in their entirety and approved. The Worshipful Master announced that, to fill two vacancies on the Temple Corporation, he was recommending to that body that it accept his nomination of Bro. Dwight Townsend and Wor. Erskine Stewart. The resolution which had been presented to the Lodge on September 6, proposing changes in the by-laws of the Scholarship Fund, copy of which is attached to the minutes of the Stated Communication of that date, was brought up for action. The proposal was read in its entirety and discussed at length, after which Wor. Erskine Stewart moved that it be rejected at this time without prejudice to its being re-offered at some future date. The Motion carried unanimously. The Worshipful Master announced that monies collected for the Lazy Susan Dinner Theater on September 21 exceeded the cost of the evening and that the excess had been divided between the participating Lodges. He thereupon presented Cherrydale's share, $24.50, to the Scholarship Fund. The sick report showed that Mrs. Agnes Hefflebower, wife of our Past Master, had been released from the intensive care unit following open heart surgery and that several of our Brethren had donated blood for Mrs. Hefflebower's surgery; deaths of three members of other Lodges were announced. Certificates for 1979 membership in the Grand Master's 100 Club were presented to RW B. W. McNamee and Bro. Dennis Ladd. The Worshipful Master announced that he also had similar certificates for RW Clive Palmer and Bros. Norris Shealy and William H. Preston, who were not present. It being Masonic Birthday night, the following were presented at the altar and invited to the East: Bro. Melvin Miller; Bro. Ed James; Bro. Hugh Ladd and Bro. Dennis Ladd; MW Stewart W. RW Bruce McNamee and Wor. Charles Strain presented John Wayne Cross, Worshipful Master of Glebe Lodge No. 181 at the altar. He was welcomed, invited to the East, the Lodge was called up to pay the honors due his station. He responded briefly and was applauded. Wor. Jack Rogers and Wor. William E. Hoy presented RW B. W. McNamee and RW Donald Robey, DDGM’s of Districts 54 and 1-A, respectively, at the altar. They were invited to the East, the Lodge was called up and paid them the honors due their stations. RW's Robey and McNamee then presented RW Reid Simmons, Grand Lecturer, at the altar. He was invited to the East, the Lodge was called up and paid him the honors due his station. MW Stewart W. Miner and Wor. L. B. Farley, Sr. presented MW Louis Douglas Delano at the altar. He was invited to the East, the Lodge was called up and paid him the honors due his station, after which MW Delano addressed the Lodge on this, the occasion of Founders Day observance. MW Delano, after congratulating Cherrydale Lodge on its history of consistent and generous support for the Masonic Home, outlined the history of that institution from the time of its founding as an orphanage in 1890 through its conversion to a retirement facility for elderly Masons, their wives and widows and up to its present day challenge to be enlarged and expanded in its scope of service. This enlargement program was voted at the February, 1979 Grand Lodge and makes it necessary that there be generous contributions to the fund for new construction while, at the same time, maintaining the endowment fund in sound fiscal condition. He concluded by saying "This Fraternity has a heart and it can be seen in the support we give to the Masonic Home of Virginia", after which he was given a standing round of applause and was presented with a certificate of appreciation and a memento of the occasion by the Worshipful Master. MW H. Bruce Green, a late arrival was introduced at his seat and was generously applauded. The Secretary announced that, at the request of Mrs. Bette Ford, he had returned to the Lodge the Past Master's jewel and apron worn by her late husband, our Wor. Bro. Carl D. Ford. Ivan Morrison, now living in Brussels, Belgium, with which he enclosed a check for the Masonic Home of Virginia; a thank you note from Mrs. Billy Kent, daughter of our late Brother Thomas Atwood, who passed away on October 20 and an invitation from the Jobies to their "dippy dinner". The bills were read and ordered paid. It was announced that Bro. Bill Vincent is recovering from a serious snake bite; the mother of our Bro. After closing, the members of the Eastern Star, Arlington Chapter No. 39 and the wives of Masons, as well as the Jobies present for the earlier dinner, were invited into the Lodge room where, led by Mrs. Alice Spriggs and Mrs. Virginia Dodge, a most interesting and enjoyable program concerning the activities and the objectives of the Eastern Star was presented. Connor is in Northern Virginia Doctors Hospital and Mrs. Agnes Hefflebower, wife of our Past Master, is recovering nicely after open heart surgery. Wor. Charles L. Conner suggested that the Lodge increase by $75.00 its contribution to the Masonic Home of Virginia in memory of Wor. Carl D. Ford, who died in October. The Worshipful Master postponed action on the suggestion until the first Stated Communication in December. This Communication having been designated for Memorial Services for the ten Brethren who had passed away in the preceding 12 months, Wor. Forrest R. Nagley and Bro. John R. Conner at the November 15 Communication concerning increasing the gift to the Masonic Home in honor of our late Wor. Bro. Carl Ford was taken up and the Worshipful Master stated that in the name of equity to other departed Brethren in whose honor similar gifts had been made he did not feel that an exception should be made in any individual case. Communications were read as follows: The Grand Master's call to Grand Lodge; invitation to Bethel No. 20's installation; from the wife of our Brother Lawrence Dahl stating that he had recently been ill and hospitalized; fraternal greetings to his Brethren in Cherrydale Lodge from Bro. Lon Thomas who recently moved to Mesa, Arizona; a letter from the brother in law of our Senior Deacon Ryan Souther concerning a visit he had made to a Lodge in Jerusalem; letters from Bros. LaMonte Davis and George (Pete) Fleming, requesting dimits, which were granted and a letter from Wor. George D. Stevens expressing regrets that he could not be present on this, his Masonic birthday. The bills were read and ordered paid. Bro. Jim Curtis suggested that mention be made in the minutes of the fact that, with our organ, the only one in a Lodge in the 54th district, Cherrydale is also the only Lodge that regularly has music at each of its Communications. The sick report showed that both Bro. Frank McCall and his wife are hospitalized; Bro. Ken Hanlon is recovering from a second throat operation; Bros. Mann, Wells and Thatcher are hospitalized. Get Well cards were ordered sent to all. Bros. Kenneth Cann, Jerry Collins and Mort Levy were invited to the East and presented with mementos in honor of their Masonic birthdays. Each addressed the Lodge briefly and all were warmly applauded, after which Bro. Cann presented the Lodge with a beautiful framed picture entitled "Let There Be Light". Right Worshipful Charles H. Rowell was invited to the East and he, in turn, asked R. W. Bruce McNamee and Wor. Charles L. Strain to present Bro. Ernest Collins, member of a Lodge in Warren, Ohio, in the East, after which RW Rowell conducted the ceremony for awarding the 60 year Masonic pin to Bro. Collins, with prayer and benediction by our Chaplain, Wor. Forrest R. Nagley. Bro. Collins then addressed the Lodge briefly and was warmly applauded. The usual introductions were made of all those present, ending with the request that RW Bro. Rowell and Wor. Luther B. Farley present our District Deputy Grand Master, RW Bruce W. McNamee, at the altar. The Worshipful Master greeted him, called up the Lodge and asked RW McNamee to continue to the East, where he was paid the honors due his high office, after which he responded briefly. John Dudley, Jr. reported that Christmas remembrances for our widows are in an advanced stage of preparation. Blood Committee: Wor. Forrest R. Nagley stated that participation by Cherrydale members in the 54th District effort is at a commendable level and enunciated the specific blood needs that had been satisfied by Cherrydale members. Cherrydale Players: Wor. John R. Conner stated that the play "Rose Upon the Altar" had been presented this year in Lodge at Prince Frederick, Maryland, Woodstock, Virginia and Washington, D. C. He stated that the time had come to rejuvenate the Players and perhaps add to the members of the cast and to engage in additional rehearsals. Temple Corporation: Wor. Erskine Stewart, who had been elected President of the Corporation only a few days before, was unable to report on its activities in the preceding year but outlined its projects for 1980. Masonic Education: Wor. Charles Strain stated that four Masonic Education programs had been presented in the Lodge during 1979. Wills, Bequests and Masonic Home: Wor. Hefflebower expressed deep appreciation for the Lodge’s response, and that of the 54th District Blood Committee to the extensive blood needs of Mrs. Hefflebower during her recent open heart surgery; Mrs. Weaver Perry, widow of a Cherrydale member is in a nursing home; Mrs. Charles Strain, wife of our past master is in Alexandria Hospital and Bro. Ken Hanlon is not doing well following a second throat operation recently. Wor. Elmer W. Wiseman was asked to approach the East, where the Worshipful Master presented him with plaque in recognition of Wor. Bro. Wiseman’s 25 years of service as Lodge Treasurer, after which he was given a prolonged standing round of applause. Worshipful Master Braner then gave a short report on his year in the East, which is contained in the permanent record. This being the annual meeting at which officers for the ensuing year are elected, the following then transpired: Bros. Jerry S. Collins, Senior Warden, and Benjamin W. Smith, Junior Warden, both having valid certificates, were nominated Worshipful Master. The ballot which followed resulted in Bro. Collins favor and he was declared elected Worshipful Master for 1980. Bro. Ben Smith was then elected Senior Warden; Bro. Ryan Souther was elected Junior Warden; Bro. Vince Blasco was elected Senior Deacon; Wor. Forrest R. Nagley was elected Treasurer and Wor. Erskine Stewart was elected Secretary. The Worshipful Master nominated Bro. Edward C. James for the post of Junior Deacon. Also nominated were Bros.. Ronald Ashby and Gary L. Hennig. The ballot which followed resulted in Bro. James favor and he was declared elected. The Worshipful Master-elect then made the following appointments: Senior Steward, Bro. Ira Jump; Junior Steward, Bro. John Rigby; Chaplain, Wor. John G. Dudley, Jr.; Marshal, Bro. Erick V. Fritzwolter, II; Tiler, Bro. Anthony J. Pezzella, Sr.; Organist, Bro. James B. Curtis. Next came election of a Trustee to replace retiring Wor. Charles L. Strain. WB’s Hassan Kiser, Luther B. Farley, Jr. and Wor. Charles L. Strain were nominated. The ballot resulted in favor of WB Farley and he was declared elected. With his thanks the Worshipful Master then dismissed the Committees that had served the Lodge during 1979. As his last official act, he then closed the Lodge of Sorrow. The Lodge was called from labor to refreshment at 8:55 P.M. and resumed labor at 9:07 P.M. RW Charles H. Rowell was in the East; Wor. John R. Conner in the West; Wor. George Stevens in the South; Wor. Hassan Kiser was Senior Deacon; Wor. Luther B. Farley, Sr. was Junior Deacon and Bro. Gary L. Hennig was Tiler. RW Rowell announced that RW Bruce W. McNamee would serve as Installing Marshal in the stead of Wor. Charles L. Strain who was unable to be present. RW Rowell then proceeded to install the newly elected officers in his usual impressive and impeccable fashion, after which the Installing Marshal made the Proclamation. RW Rowell congratulated all the newly installed officers, after which Wor. Jerry Collins presented him with a gift. WB Collins then offered a prayer of his own composition for the Officers and the Lodge, after which he spoke eloquently of his pride and gratitude in his new position. He warmly congratulated the Junior Past Master on the programs he had conducted and for his leadership in 1979. Senior Warden Smith then approached the East and presented the Master with his apron. The Worshipful Master then passed on to Bro. Smith the Senior Warden’s lapel pin, after which Wor. Braner approached the East and presented the Worshipful Master with his lapel pin. On behalf of Mrs. Collins and family, he presented the Worshipful Master with a mounted, inscribed gavel and for Mrs. Braner and himself, a beautiful prayer plaque. Bro. James Curtis presented the Worshipful Master with a Masonic belt buckle. Bro. Larry Linville, who had signed WB Collins’ petition, was asked to approach the East and the Worshipful Master presented him with a gift. WB Dudley, who had placed the Worshipful Master in line, was asked to the East and was presented a gift. The Worshipful Master then announced the Committees for 1980, a list of which is contained in the permanent record. The Proxies for Grand Lodge were then announced as follows: for the Worshipful Master, Wor. Erskine Stewart; for the Senior Warden, Bro. Vincent G. Blasco and for the Junior Warden, Bro. Ed James. The Worshipful Master then reopened the Lodge of Sorrow. The usual introductions of visitors, members, Past Masters, etc. were made. At his request, the District Deputy Grand Master, RW Bruce W. McNamee, was introduced at his seat. Routine announcements were made, after which the Worshipful Master asked for the assistance of the Brethren in delivering the widows’ gifts. No further business remaining to claim the attention of the Brethren, the minutes were read and approved, as amended and the Master Mason's Lodge was closed in ancient form and harmony at 10:30 P. M. |
